One can read something about de Keukenhof at the above link.

My m-i-l is approaching 90 and she wanted to go and visit the Keukenhof again she announced a fewe weeks ago. This ment that we had to go about working out the logistics which involved renting an auto, checking on wheelchair availability and estimating when the best day to go would be in terms of seeing the most flowers in bloom.

This past sunday it was time, so we got an early start. We picked up the auto the night before and then sunday morning bright and early, we headed over to the m-i-l's house, where she was chomping at the bit to get going.

The trip to the gardens took a bit longer than I had expected and many of the roads leading to the complex were jammed full of cars and busses, but eventually we got there and found a good parking place up close to the main gate.

We wheeled on in through the entrance, and as always, wondered which direction to take first. Sometimes it's best just to start and if you miss something, then pick it up on the way back. There are a lot of interconnecting paths in the Keukenhof and a person makes alot of detours anyway.

I will just show the pics now without further delay.
After worming our way through the bolus of visitors at the beginning we came out into this lovely area with that stunning swathe of colour meandering through the trees.

There were so very many patches that stood out, here are but a few:

At one point we came to the Orchid House. There were some nice specimens, but it was actually too busy to work our way tyhrough with a wheelchair, but we did get to see quite a few. Orchids are a favourite of my m-i-l.

After walking and walking (more than 6 hours in all), we werte ready to leave, and decided to take the scenic routo home instead of the big superhighways to see the many tulip and hycinth fields that were briefly in bloom. The farmers cut the flowerheads off at a certain point so that the bulbs can develop and multiply.

What a wonderful day it was. When we finally dropped the car off and got home, we just flopped down and had a look at the day's pics and sent some off to the m-i-l.
I have been to the Keukenhof a few times now, and it never fails to please with it's theme's, planting schemes and varieties.

What beautiful photos. Glad all the flowers put on such a spectacular show for your m-i-l.

I saw a program on our PBS channel a few years ago about the Keukenhof and a tour of a tulip farm. Very interesting to see the whole planting/growing/harvesting process

What a colorful day you had Sjoerd! I just love big masses of bulbs in bloom so your photos really made me smile. GORGEOUS! But I really wouldn't want to be the one planting all those bulbs! My back hurts just thinking about it...

Sjoerd, brought back ancient memories! My first every trip away from home with a boyfriend was a long weekend to Amsterdam and we went on a coach outing to Keukenhof for the day - it was amazing! I have very similar piccies to you of the fields of flowers which were truly breathtaking. What a lovely thing to do for your MIL.
