A friend gave me this old shelf.

So I painted it to look old and weathered.

Here it is with plants and stuff on it.

On the bottom shelf is where my Morning Glory is planted. I added some Vinca just to have something pretty down there and since they are annuals, I figured they wouldn't "rob" the Morning Glories too much.

On the middle shelf I decided to put all the "metal" stuff I had. An Ivy in an old pot, the little wheel barrow and an old tricycle planter I found in my Dad's old workshop.

The top shelf is my "Nautical" theme.

Here's a closer look at the Nautical stuff. Can you tell I love the water?

And at the very tip-top is the top of the trellis for the Morning Glories.

And so... there's the OLD shelf that was NEW to me that now looks OLD and weathered!
And I guess it's my attempt at tier gardening. Goes "full circle" from top to bottom... or should I say.... from bottom to top?
    :-D

Great looking project, I love all the things you put on the shelves.
The Morning Glories climbing up the back and bursting out at the top is really cool,

Thanks! I painted a shelf similar to this for inside. It's really simple to do. I just painted it with a thin coat of light blue paint. Let it dry. Then splotch some dark blue here and there and wipe it in/around with a cloth. In the meantime, I soaked the brush that had the light blue paint in a little water and then went back over it with a thin/watered down coat... also wiping with a cloth. For the shelf in the house, I also put a coat of "crackle" ( don't think I'll need it for the outdoor shelf in this hot Texas sun!).
I have a few more projects that's going to get the same paint job. I love the look of the old weathered wood by the coast.

I love your shelf. And all the decorations you added. That is my kind of project. I really like the weathered/crackled look. You are so right about the Texas heat. It will do the crackling for you. Makes me want to find something to paint and decorate! :D

What a brilliant way to make an old shelf unit new -then old again!! I love the blue - very striking especially against your plants and other items. My favourite shelf has got to be the nautically themed one!! Well done you. :-D
