I just finished planting all of my bulbs. I must have planted over 50 of them. I had the few hyacinth, daffodil, and calla lily bulbs, but then I came across some really cheap bulbs of five other plants: Anemone coronaria (Hollandia Red), Anemone coronaria (Mr. Fokker Deep-Blue), Ipheion uniflorum, Crocus chrysanthus (Mixed Colors), Allium moly luteum, Chionodoxa luciliae. I had about 10-15 bulbs of each and I paid only $3.99 for the whole lot of them. A good deal if you ask me. I originally started to plant them in certain areas around the garden to accent things, but I afterward I still had a lot of bulbs left over. I then decided to randomly plant them around the garden in sort of a wildflower look. So we will see what the garden looks like in spring because all I see right now are patches of soil. I can't wait for spring already.
Good for you! Random planting is how Mother Nature does it, and she ought to know since she's been at it for eons. Your garden will be lovely, and you'll be so proud that you got your bulbs in. You got quite a bargain, also!
It will be fun to watch your flowers come up next spring! You chose some pretty ones. I managed to get in a dozen white Anemone last week. I like em cause they are small and easy to plant One day I had to plant 60 big Tulip bulbs for a customer... and of course, the ground was rock hard clay, ugh! my hands and wrists were sore that night! I sure hope they are gorgeous after all my efforts! I always feel like planting bulbs is like planting hope! Can't wait for spring!!!
Marlingardener - When I planted the bulbs randomly, that's the same thing I thought. Kay - Oh, a white Anemone! I bet those will be pretty when they come up. I have never seen white ones before. We have clay here too and it can be a hassle to dig in especially in the summer months when the ground gets really dry. Droopy - I love the Crocus too, but never had the chance to get some until now. And I supposedly have a variety of colors so I can't wait until spring.
