The mowing season has started. I just finished the front, and the barn lot is my afternoon's entertainment. I admit, I am not a fan of grass. I mow; don't dislike mowing; but my happiest hours are not spent perched atop the riding mower. My husband keeps threatening to eradicate our horseherb (a short, yellow-flowered plant that is a wonderful alternative to grass) that's under the ashe juniper. I like it because you don't have to mow it! Does anyone else have an "alternative" to grass?
A full yard flower garden. I only have a small portion of the front yard un-planted as of yet and the hell strip between the sidewalk and curb but those will be gone this year. I took out all the grass in the back yard several years ago. Randy gave his riding mower away last month, it was old and barely ran so his friend is going to fix it and sell it.
I love grass... and my favorite chore is mowing! Our riding mower is "under the weather" right now. Something about a fuel relay switch. I did manage to the get front yard and down the driveway and partial empty lot done before it went kaput. Good thing I have my new push mower! I was able to get my garden area mowed and some of the rest of the backyard. But... if that riding mower isn't fixed REALLY soon... I'm afraid I'm not going to like push mowing everything.
Whats you mean gentlemen start your mowers, Us women mow grass too, you know, LOL We like to get out there and get all that power around us, I love power tools and things like that,Although Wayne says Ill get hurt.He doesn't even like me to use our electric meat slicer,Women are going to take over the power tools one day,and then some men are going to be in trouble, I'm just kidding ' LOL' Us women have enough to do with out all that to.It is fun using them though, It give us power for a little while, BYE BYE For now Margie
The Snowblower is still warmer than the lawnmower. It will soon be time to give it its spring tune-up. It's too early to wake up the lawn. Mowing will have to wait. Jerry
Mowing will have to wait here too for the weather to improve. I do love the smell of newly mown grass so let's hope our mower will soon be in use too.

We have 2 acres of grass. Hubby does the big pieces with the lawn tractor and I do around the house with the push mower. We are planting trees like mad and I keep adding gardens so hopefully one day there will be a lot less to mow. I actually enjoy cutting grass, but would prefer to garden if given a choice
I love to mow! It's going to be a while yet, the grass is still very dormant. To me, mowing is sort of like sweeping or vacuuming, (a little weird of me, I know) there is something very satisfying about finishing the mowing and seeing how neat and tidy the yard looks. I love the smell of cut grass, and I always have silly Robins following me to see if I'm scaring up any yummy worms or bugs. I think I am the only female on my street that mows, all the neighbor men always get out there after I mow, so as to not be outdone by a girl! HaHa P.S. I love power tools too
I like to use the grass clippings for mulch like KK. Not a big fan of mowing my spongey zoysia, though. Last year I hired a friend's son to mow for me. I did it more for to help him earn some $, but I felt so freed up, I'm gonna do it again this year if he's for hire. Oh, but the question was alternatives to grass, wasn't it?
Margie, I'm a lady--Marlin is the name of the closest town, not my name! I view power tools and mechanical things as potential enemies. I'll use them but I keep a close eye on them. I do admire a lady who is comfortable with motorized stuff. Cheryl honey, if you enjoy mowing that much, perhaps you ought to get out more . . . . If there are any grass clippings left from bagging the back yard, I like to put them in the compost, too, KKNg. Most go into the chicken coop as "fun time" for the ladies. Jerry, we brought our big snow shovel down to Texas with us. We use it to make paths around the gardens. Just the right width, and we chuckle every time we move dirt with it rather than (shudder) snow!
