I was wondering what is doing well in your gardens with the minimum of fuss? Mine are Daylilies, a Tiger lily and Hostas. And of course Daffodils. The Gladioli come back every year too - but I am not too impressed with their performance. Have moved them to a sunnier location this year. Lets see.
Mealy Blue Sage (salvia farinacea)--plant it and forget it! It spreads, doesn't require dead-heading, isn't thirsty, and the bees love it. In the vegetable garden cherry tomatoes are the easiest. The only thing they require is a good sturdy trellis!
Has to be the Texas Star Hibiscus... just have to cut them back after last freeze. Cannas & Coreopsis.. nothing... just have to thin them out on occasion. The Kalanchoes take care of themselves... just cover them up when there's a hard freeze.
Daylilies, mostly from seed, and Hostas, by division. Wood Phlox, Sedum, and Campanula I guess round out the list. I don't count the stuff that grows wild. There might be more but the cobwebs of winter still cloud the brain and the flowers of spring only now are waking up my gardening senses. Jerry
Right now, nothing is easy. We're watering most every day. But what is growing best is the basil and other herbs. I think because they are in pots. Oh, I forgot the Blaze Climbing Roses. There are 10 bushes and more that a hundred flowers on each bush. As soon as they finish blooming, I'll cut off the deadheads and feed them some more. dooley
Well the things in my garden that I never do anything with are my bulbs and my trees. Well I say I do nothing but I do trim the trees twice a year but it's no great chore.
For my yard and climate I'd have to say the heathers and foxgloves. Flowers with no work and no water...but then again I live in a rainy moderate area. :-D
For me it's Canna, my Blaze climbing roses, Texas Rock Rose, Artemisia 'Powis Castle', Aromatic Sumac, Turk's Cap, Mexican Mint Marigold, Lemon Balm. All of these are pretty much on their own and do wonderfully with what water falls from the sky and almost total neglect from me.
what comes to mind is my rosemary, bee balm......butterfly bushes....hmmm.....day lilies and azaleas.
