The Cannas bloomed first, but now the Texas Star Hibiscus has started to bloom. They seem to race each other to see who can get the tallest and put on the most blooms! Texas Star Hibiscus ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
That is a lovely thing, Cheryl. How tall is it, about? Is it a true hibiscus? I wonder what the Latin name is for that red beauty.
from Daves Garden: Family: Malvaceae (mal-VAY-see-ee) (Info) Genus: Hibiscus (hi-BIS-kus) (Info) Species: coccineus (kok-SIN-ee-us) (Info) Synonym:Hibiscus semilobatus It's between 6.5 and 7 foot tall. And is about 2-3 foot wide. Sure makes a "statement" with it's size... and when it's in full bloom (about 13 each day) it sure is a beauty.
What a vibrant shade of red. It must attract plenty of attention from passers by. I know I would stop and stare if I saw it as it's so beautiful!!
Thanks Cheryl. I looked it up and as I suspected, it isn't available in this country. I shall give the UK a look. Thanks for going to the trouble of researching the Latin name.
Beautiful color and bloom. And no I didn't get the seeds started that you sent me. After the spring I had I totally forgot about them but I am hoping to do that when the heat lessens...ohhhhh, say sometime in December.
