Is aquaponics growth rate faster than the traditional way?

I planted some kale awhile ago and I selected two seedlings that germinated at about the same time for a comparision which will grow faster. Both these seedlings have about the same growth rate when in the nursery and both were started with the same conditions.

Now I have transplanted them into their respective places to do a comparision on their growth rate. They get about the same amount of sushine and the photos was shot yesterday and they seem to be the same. My traditional method is organic with compost as the only means of fertiliser.

I know this is just two plants being compared and at the moment I feel that the other veggies that I planted in the aquaponics seems to grow faster.

    What do you think?

Observations of KK's subject plants: Subject plant #1(first plant) has the leaves curled down indicating the direction of higher moisture i.e. the aquaponics growing tank. Subject #2 the leaves are curled up indicating the moisture falls as rain or artificial watering. Leaf shape in subject #1 appears larger, vein structure appears to indicate a more constant moisture flow. Coloring in subject #2 is slightly paler than subject #1.

Conclusions: Considering that moisture and nutrients are always available for subject #1 and subject #2 is dependent on soil for nutrients as well as a consistent watering schedule the prospects for subject #1 would appear to be more consistent for continued improvement in growth and size vs. subject #2.

Hi KK-- was the camera lens the same distance from both the plants when you took the pictures?

The aquaponics one does look better, but I wondered the same as sjoerd. was the pic taken at the same distance? the background on the planted one makes it hard to see the similarities or differences.

    Wow!! Jerry, great deductions.

Sojerd I try to keep the camera at a same distance and angle.

Carloyn, the background did make a difference.

So far the vote is 100% on aguaponics. The photos below were taken yesterday.

Interesting KK, both look nice, but the one is slightly larger now.
I just saw in this weeks newspaper that the greenhouse I used to work at now has 18,000 gal tank to raise fry for fishermen. I was wondering if he was using the water to water his plants with. this would certainly influence me to do so if i had access to an operation such as this.

How many fish and large of an operation do you have there KK?

 So very sorry for the wrong link.

Franks thanks for pointing out the mistake.

Carolyn, very very sorry to have taken you to a no connection page. I have corrected the link which is this one .. http://www.gardenstew.com/blog/e8051-22-all-system-go.html and tested it too to make sure it is the correct one.

KK, it was NOT a problem. I don't even know how to add a link, so you adding the wrong one didn't even worry me. I went to your garden, picked the album and looked through it. Yesterday. See very simple to fix, just go around when you can't go through. I surely wasn't going to point out something I can't do myself. :stew1:

These photos are taken today but at different distance. From the measuring tape we can see the plant in the aquaponics now have a much faster growth rate than the traditional one.

That is pretty awesome KK, This makes weeding much easier too, I would think. that way you can grow a whole lot more with less effort. ;)
