I thought you might all like to see a few visitors to my garden. This photograph is of the Collared Dove that some of you may remember me feeding when it was little more than a baby itself. She visits often and is still very 'tame.' Here she is with her own youngster. I feel like a proud Grandma!! This next one if of a young Wood Pigeon with one of its parents. Lastly I found this pretty little moth on my patio doors this morning. It's a 'Beautiful Carpet Moth/Mesoleuca albicillata.' It's the first time I've seen one around here although they are widespread and fairly common throughout the UK.
What a adorable 'grand-bird' it's nice to know that the mom still comes to visit sometimes. What a pretty Moth, have you ever seen it's caterpillar?
Well 'grandma' it's nice to be able to follow the lives of the 'children' so closely. This is the first time I have seen a collared dove, pretty birds. Jerry
Nanna Eileen, lovely to see the second generation of the Collared Dove visiting your garden,..all down to the parent remembering your garden was a safe haven. I had never seen a Carpet Moth,..very interesting to look at. Nice shots one and all,..i get Wood Pigeon visiting my roof,..but they are cute enough not to land in the garden,..cat aware!,..i call Wood Pigeons Wood Quest,..have you heard that name?.
Doves They look very sweet. I have a friend who has a Ring Neck dove as a pet. She keeps it in the house in a large bird cage. But I would call her a free range dove as she let's her door open on the cage all the time. So it can come and go as it pleases. She named her Lovey, as she loves to be around you. I love the cooing noises they make. Thanks for sharing!
Eileen, one of the great joys of a garden is seeing the wildlife that visits it, too. You have created a haven, which obviously is appreciated by more than one generation!
Philip I know that the Norfolk Island Pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae spadicea) is sometimes referred to as a Wood Quest but I've never heard of the term being applied to Wood Pigeons before. :-?
Naaaw, they're so cute! Bestemor Eileen must have spoilt the mum since she brings her babies to meet you. Your moth is really something else. I've never seen anything like that.
Toni I've never seen the moths caterpillars - in fact I haven't a clue what they would look like. I'm off to Google now and have a look for them.
That is one type of bird that I don't get on the deck. Nice pictures Eileen. The moth etc is one of my favorite topics along with all the other garden insects.
