Are your ponds made from preforms or did you dig the ground and lay down plastic liners? About how big are they?
You have a variety of interesting plants. That red one sort of looks like my Reflective Flame.

 

The ponds were dug out. Now they use a 45 mil EPDM liner. When the pond was first built, it used a painters liner. The clear or black sheets of plastic to minimize mess durring painting. Worked well for pond installation. Non-toxic to fish and plants. But because that wasn't ment for ponds it degraded quickly. But at least it held untill I got the real liner. The plants consist of water lily species "Attraction". I also have Pickerel Plants, Some 5 year old cattails, and American Pond Weed. Next year I want more variety in my pond like Parrots Feather, Lotus, Sensitive Plant, Iris, Horse Tail, Mosaic Plant, Fairy Moss, Frog bite, Four Leaf Water Clover.

Except for the Parrot Feather... well... it looks nice enough... and perhaps wasn't meant for a container pond. But it TOTALLY tried taking over my little space. Hope it was just my fault for trying to "contain" it.

 

Parrots Feather is something I have grown before but ended up killing it. It's weird, with plants that are suppost to be easy to grow I struggle with. With plants that are said to be hard to grow, I'm successful with. The Cattails in the pond are 5 years old, and these are Latifolia species or Common Cattail which are considered to be the most invasive water plants, yet I have kept them confined in the little plastic containers, and they seem to do fine. They are dwarfed because of this. But perfect size for my pond.

 

Last year, I dug up some Cattail out of a ditch and have it in my small container. It survived the winter and has put on new growth, but no signs of "tails" yet.

 

Right now I have 3 or 4. This fall when they fluff out, getting ready to fly away. I may take some and plant them in the smaller pond.

 

We have 2 ponds; one in front of the house and one in the backyard. They each have a statue that squirts water into it but otherwise neither has fish or waterfalls. They are such a delight. I will have to post pictures but they aren't anything like FountainMan's. In addition to the ponds, we have several fountains along with a swimming pool, numerous plants, flowers, and trees, and gazebos which makes our home an oasis.

 

Thank you, My pond was built over 6 years ago. Then it didn't look anything like it does today. When I first built it, I used a painters liner. It worked. Seems to be fish safe. But because it wasn't ment for pond use let alone outdoor use, it degraded quickly. The pond was only 6 inches deep, about 9 Ft by 6 Ft. Had a fountain in the center. We re-did the pond about 10 times before we found something that worked. Then we landscaped around it, and we re-layed the plastic as an underlayment. We added an EPDM liner. All my plants have been propagated. I started out with 1 Water Lily, 1 Pickerel Plant, and 1 Cattail. We divided these plants, and now we have 2 Water Lilies, 8 pickerels, and 3 cattails. The fountain in the center of the main pond is really cool. It's actually a floating UV clarifyer. The pump takes water in from the bottom, flow through a UV chamber, then sprays out through a fountain that's lit up at night. Looks great. I bought this at Lowes for 135$.

 

Here is the backyard pond. I told you it wasn't as fancy as FountainMan's but we like it just the same

It started with a couple of plants from our friend's koi pond and grew to this. I can't name everything in it or around it.

Looks like Canna around it (the tall plants with big leaves).
And towards the back... the "bushy" looking plant reminds me of Parrot Feather.
I really do like the upright arrowhead-looking leaves that's in there!

 

Thanks! You can see the Rosemary in the background on the right. We also have red, yellow, and pale pink roses on either side. The spare white fencing was used as a trellis. This pond sits to the right of the steps leading to the deck and swimming pool. On the opposite side is a bird bath fountain.
So much beauty in our little oasis.

 

Thank you guys. I love my pond system. But I'm pushing for more. I don't know when, but within a year or so we're building another larger pond system on the other side of the yard. In my photo album I have a picture of a Peach Tree. That's the start of project #2. This will have larger 10 by 20 Ft pond, larger streams, and waterfalls, a park like header pond suppost to measure 9 Ft diameter with a large geyser effect in the center. Like something you'd see at a mall. We will be able to plant it more. Were also going to do this thing where in the present pond that involves installing a skimmer in the side facing project #2 and matching the width of the skimmer will be a waterfall in the opposite pond to looke like water is flowing from one pond to another through an underground tunnel without there being an underground tunnel.

 

Wow FountainMan!!! I'm intimidated about setting up a simple little area... and it sounds like you're about to build a water park! Please keep us in the loop throughout the project(s).
