Yesterday afternoon it finally stopped raining. I am out hedging some more and a few more perennials are beginning to flower. The clouds have parted some so I can see blue sky although the sun is still in hiding. No triple digit temperatures here, but we might make it to 70 F today. Here is what's going on today out in the yard. Just beautiful! All the colors are stunning. Glad to hear you have some sunshine and I really do hope it doesn't get as hot there as it is here! It is miserable. You sweat just standing outside. no exertion necessary. it's like a sauna.
Very beautiful. I really like red bee balm also. Can you send some of that 70 degree temps our way. We are still melting
Yes, I'm really liking that Speedwell/Monarda combination too. I think I'm going to have to move some stuff around in my back garden this fall
The Bee Balm and Speedwell were also my favorite. And then of course the Water Lilies. The pink looks so "girly". Great set of photos!
Carolyn, don't have to worry about heat here. It has become rather a joke with the horrendous heat your part of the country is having and we can seldom make it into the low 70's. Extremely cool spring and summer here (as in neither has happened so far). Tooty, I would love to help moderate some of your temps with ours...if only... Kay if only I could send some rain...but then would I have to water??? gfreiherr, carolyn, Tooty2shoes, calvinjane, cherylad, Frank, Netty, the beebalm and speedwell were a lucky combination. I planted the speedwell last year in the spring and this is the first year it has bloomed. I will be moving both around since the blue goes with many other perennials and the bees love both plants. Jerry that is a Hydrangea serrata 'Blue Billow'. I really like it. The plants haven't gotten so overwhelming large (like some I should move) staying in a compact 2-3 foot range. It also took the freeze down to 9F with no damage (and no cover). I had two other varieties freeze to the ground and another variety freeze back 6-10 inches on the branches. The Blue Billow also doesn't wilt when the sun comes out. Last summer my mophead hydrenga always looked horrible after a nice sunny day. The Blue billow definitely does well in my garden.
Hi Jewell, Lovely pictures,..like everyone else i love the combination of the Bee Balm and the Speedwell,..they are two flowers i would love to have,..if there were any room for them in my garden,..i love that Hydrangea,..never came across one before.
