Today is my last working day for the summer as the children break up from school this afternoon for the long 6 weeks. The benefit of being self employed is I don't work school holidays and my customers all know this and understand fully. However, as I have been seeing them these last 2 weeks, they have all commented that when I return in September it will be time to start the autumn tidy as winter will be just around the corner!!! NO I cry, September is still summer in my eyes, in fact, the way our crazy weather is going, I expect September and October to be our summer time as it is so chilly and miserable here at the moment.

    Happy holidays folks.

Oh Nooooo...I am with you, especially this year.
I don't want to HEAR about fall yet. There is still so much to do and while I just now harvested the last of the last of ther last of the broad beans, the toms and cues are just beginning and the French runners are thinking about beginning....in short, things are just now beginning, so i don't want to think abiout it ending at this premature stage.
I just today contacted the Food Bank and said that we would begin with pick-ups again next thursday!

    Fall??? --I'm not having it.
    :)

No neither am I!! It's waaay too early to be thinking of autumn. I have so much left to do outdoors before the shorter nights and frosts. Please tell summer to stay around for at least another six months.

I beg to differ. Fall will bring rain (we hope!) and cooler temperatures. We have had 38 days with temps above 100, and 20-some days in a row of 100 or above. If our autumn arrives tomorrow, it won't be too soon!

If we could get those two kids in the Pacific, la nina and el nino to stop playing with the thermostat maybe the weather would get back to normal. :)

My spring/summer stuff has succumbed to the heat and lack of moisture. Watering doesn't seem to do it anymore. I'm starting some seeds that I can plant out maybe in September. Our ground doesn't freeze here so maybe they will do okay this fall. We do need a break from the heat. I don't remember when we had a day when it wasn't in upper 90's or lower 100's with equal amounts of humidity. It is like going out into a hot steamy bath if you step out the door between about 11 am and 7 pm. So, no more summer here either.

I love fall. It is way too hot here, and some of my flowers haven't even started blooming yet. Partly due to the heat, and partly due to my horse eating off the tips. I planted about 11 different morning glories and only one bloom so far. They should have been in full bloom back in May sometime. I planted some reseeding ones in purples, blues and dark pinks; two kinds of red ones--one with double blooms; white with pink stripes--that one had one bloom that I know of; pink ones, light blue ones... I want SEEDS from all of them. I just mixed the seeds up and planted them all together this spring. They are growing, most of them nicely but no flowers yet. I am watering them almost daily. A lot of things look they are almost done for the season because of the heat. The sweet taters are hanging on, and the peppers and tomato plants, and I have a few volunteer melons just sprouting. I think there is enough time before cold weather, but it would be nice if the temps were only in the 70s instead of 100s and 90s. YUCK. The rose of sharon bushes are blooming, but look so wilty from no rain. The lilies are finishing up and look dry and wilty too. Poor things. My lawn is crunchy despite my attempts to water it. :(

I am counting the days to fall weather, which might be sometime in November this year
Actually I will be doing all sorts of thank you rituals when the daytime high temperature stays consistently below 90...also sometime in November this year.

EJ, wish we could push this hot air over the "pond" to you and others.
However, I am a "Summer girl" and I love all the hot sunny days and the growing season the best of all.
I love your expression fall "tidy up" may I borrow that? :) I will be doing a lot of that soon, sooner than I would like.

Of course Kay, and I wish you could deliver some warm temperatures for us. It is so dreary here at the moment.

Eileen, maybe fall and winter will forget about us this year and we will just have a long long summer???

Sjoerd, I agree, my toms are colouring and my beans are setting...please let summer come properly soon!
