I have a question? Is vinegar effective for bindweeds? When I talked to Nurseries, they told me not to pull up bindweeds as they only breakoff underground and sprout more roots, kind like a hydra. moderator's note: split this post into it's own topic
Yes vinegar will kill bind weed when sprayed on the leaves. But be careful you do not get spray on other plants as it will kill them also. You will need to keep spraying it when you see new growth appear. It is a pain to deal with. We also have it here but i am blessed to have it only growing out in one area of our pasture. You might look at a product called, Iron-X from Gardens Alive. It is safe for your lawn and such and kills a wide variety of weeds naturally. Which I like as I hate using chemicals. I have used vinegar to keep bull thistles from gowing back after I have cut off the tops down to ground level. I just poured some on the spot and the thistle did not grow back.
Thanks for the advice! I welcome anything that can help me with this battle. I can't wait to try the vinegar and the Iron-X!
I finally got rid of the bindweed in my yard and it was a long battle. I took a small baggie, put some Round-up in it, then wrapped it around a tendril of the weed and sealed it in with a twist-tie. It didn't happen overnight and I still needed to pull and pull and pull. But after that season, I rarely see it anywhere in my garden.
