While driving home one night I rounded a curve near a cranberry bog to see in the road a ball of fur. Interesting I thought. It is so small it could only be a piece of something. I continued for a short distance and my curiosity got the better of me. I turned around and drove back to the fur, still in the road. The outline of a very small grey bunny crouched motionless was apparent from a different angle. The rabbit was in shock, probably from hitting a car as opposed to being hit by a car. The usual reason why animals do not move is that they have suffered a concussion from the event. I looked for cars....none. I retrieved a box from the trunk and coaxed the bunny into the box. I drove home with the rabbit huddled in one corner of the box. As there were no outward signs of injury I reasoned that I could apply the same therapy for this creature as for birds often rescued after flying into windows at work, a quiet, dark setting where they can rest. It remained in the car, in the box, for the night. The next morning the rabbit was out of the box, sitting on the car seat looking as if he wanted a ride somewhere. "Home bunny?" I inquired. We drove back to the location near the cranberry bog and I released the rabbit into the bushes wishing him good luck as he hopped away. Lets hope next time he looks both ways before crossing the road. Jerry
I'm so glad it was you who discovered the bunny Jerry. Thank goodness it was just stunned by its experience. Fingers crossed it will now have a chance to grow up and enjoy the rest of its life. Well done on knowing just what to do. :-D
