I often thought of doing this, however I always held myself back. As I was new, and so really didn't know many of the members very well. But over time, I have seen some of your vacation pictures, as well as lots of other interesting stuff. So I'm restoring the balance by kicking off this thread, where I'm sharing some pictures of my area, (to give everyone an idea what it's like to live in my part of the world). Anyway here it is people, the SeaView beach area of DHA Karachi, Pakistan, (the reason why I don't ever feel the need to go on a vacation)... 8) If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to answer then all! Well, S-H, you did a fine job of capturing the beach for us. It is awesome to "visit" your part of the world with out actually being there. I would probably never be able to afford to visit so, this is a wonderful view from my chair.
Travelogs are great as we get the opportunity to see a far off place that we would otherwise not be able to view. A good mix of subject matter that provides the viewer enough variety to make the presentation interesting. Thank you S-H. Jerry
Beautiful location S-H, it's no wonder you don't feel like taking vacations Did you ever ride on the dune buggy or camel?
I don't usually do beaches but I must say I'd love to visit that one. There's just so much to see that I'd be enthralled for hours.
Very interesting. So many different things going on compared to our beaches. Your beaches are very nice. I don't go to our beaches but I would visit yours, if I lived near them.
Thanks S-H for showing us your part of the world. I would not need a vacation either if that was my back yard.
Never say never, as we can't be too sure about exactly what the future holds for us! No, no, there is absolutely no need to thank me for anything. This was long overdue, as I had seen so much interesting stuff from you guys - So I just had to restore the balance... Well I've never ridden a horse, but in childhood I did ride on the camel a few times. Actually I was made to ride it (due to peer pressure). Riding on animals is something that I have always detested, as far as I can remember... However I did ride on an elephant once at Karachi zoo, (again in early childhood only). And this too was because a cousin, (slightly elder to me) wanted that ride, and I of course got dragged along... I'm not at all afraid of animals, nor am I revolted by them. I just strongly believe that animals are people too! So riding on them just doesn't seem right to me, never did, and never will... A few 100 years ago humanity didn't exactly have a choice. But after the industrial revolution, there is no reason to use animals in that way. That anyway is my opinion on the subject. I however started living here when I was 12, and so most of the times my Dog was walking with me on this beach. And so other animals stayed away, (as they could sense my Dog's vicious nature towards strangers)... Actually, this too is something that I have always found a bit discomforting on a personal level - That in almost all of the world dogs are encouraged to be tame and very friendly towards strangers. While over here the trend is that dogs should only be playful and friendly towards you and your family. And towards strangers they should always be (by western standards) borderline insane, and always ready to bite at the slightest excuse! It actually is a matter of great pride for an owner over here, when his or her dog bites someone! In fact dogs that don't bite never get invited for breeding either, (no matter how healthy and good looking they may be)... This also leads to a lot of misunderstandings sometimes too, specially with foreigners. As they are used to friendly dogs. And so the moment they extend their hand to pat a dog over here, (naively thinking that just because the dog is calmly standing with his or her owner, and so must be tame) - They instantly get bitten! My own Dog bit 2 to 3 intruders in her lifetime, and one newspaper guy who carelessly put his hand through the gate to pass me the newspaper bill the for the month - Whereupon my Dog had his wrist in no time! The law over here is also on the dog's side. And so a week later, when we also proved to the newspaper guy that our Dog was fully vaccinated, he himself said that if she ever has puppies, then he would appreciate it a lot if we contact him. As he would be the first in line to adopt at least one puppy! And from elsewhere too, we started getting breeding proposals left right and center - As everybody had seen my Dog bite that man. But as for done buggies, yes, me and my Dog both loved that ride a lot!!! Anyway, point of me saying all this is that animals should be our friends and partners. Not commodities for use, neither for profit, nor for recreation... With Her Excellency, General Gypsy, my Minister of Defence (and Offence). ( photo / image / picture from S-H's Garden ) OK, just for you 3, I will now also post pictures of how this beach is at evening time!
My Lord,, You live on vacation. Beautiful beach, catch or pick up your dinner, loving dog at home. What more could you want? Sound perfect to me. But in defense of horses, since I have 6 of them, a horse without a job is like a person without a job.
A Horse With No Name Hello S-H The exploitation of all animals is a sad and overwhelming fact. Horses, not canines, are mans best friends. A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse! (Richard the III, Shakespeare) JCT
Hello S-H...i just stumbled on this thread you started some months ago. What an incredible variety of things you have going on at your beach...we never see camels on our beaches. I appreciate knowing about how people train their dogs. It is excellent information for travelers. You never know when you might end up in Pakistan and we do have a tendency to hold out our hands...so when in Pakistan, keep hands in pockets when meeting dogs. That is such a sweet looking dog you have there and it is hard to imagine that it would bite my hand. Is that a Golden Retriever?
Yes she was a Golden Retriever (1982 to 1994), her father was actually the French ambassador's pet Dog, while her mother was the pet of someone local. And yes, she was always very sweet and extremely playful (as well as an excellent swimmer of the ocean) - I was actually warned to be very careful when going for a swim with her, as she being a Dog would not get tired, but I might. Which is why we never went too far out, as I always had to save enough energy in myself to return safely. But once back on shore when I would catch my breath again, she would insist on going back out there once more! However when it came to strangers, was when her true aggressive nature and canine pack mentality would take over, (making her extremely territorial, and lethal)... In the west a Dog with such a threatening attitude towards strangers would probably get euthanised, or the owner might end up going bankrupt by paying for all the legal fees and medical bills of people his Dog would have bitten - But over here (thankfully) if someone gets bitten, 9 times out of 10 it is assumed that the person was the aggressor, as Dogs don't normally bite unless their territory is invaded, or their owners are threatened. So over here Dogs are encouraged to bring out their atavistic nature of the wolves. And I personally think that they remain most happy this way too. This I guess is also why small breeds like the poodles are not very popular here (as they mostly are alarm Dogs, not good for biting people). Only medium size Dogs like retrievers and German shepherd alsatians, to large and heavy ones like great danes, rottweilers, and the Pakistani breed of Kohati bull terrier are kept as pets. Anyway the strangest thing about my Dog, which I still haven't seen in any other Dog - Is that whenever my father and me were working on the car, she would come and try to assist. Maybe it was because she loved car rides, or maybe she wanted to become a mechanic? But every tool we would used, she would watch very carefully, and afterwards would smell and visually check everything herself (including all the tools). But aside from that, she was a gardener too - Well, I guess her way of gardening was to dig up everything during the night! Another funny thing about her was that she often tried to sneak up on us from behind, and would headbutt us behind the knee. Her aim was to make us fall down, so she could lick our face, (something which we wouldn't let her do normally). So whenever we would catch her trying to stealthily approach us form behind, her expression would always be like: Who me? I'm not doing anything here. You're clearly mistaken...
