I got a start of this plant from one of my aunts about 3 years ago. She called it a "dead bird plant". I guess she never saw it bloom and just saw the spent flower hanging there the next morning. :D

I've been watching it finally get ready to bloom. And not just one... but five buds. Two fell off. I guess it was self thinning?

It was a nice evening, not too too hot. And there wasn't a darn thing on TV worth watching. So I got out the mosquito spray, camp lantern, flashlight. Made a big cold adult beverage and grabbed a chair.. and made sure the batteries were charged in the camera.

    It was getting close.

That's when I realized the flower was going to be completely different from my other Cyreus that bloomed recently.

    Different... but still pretty.

And the other two were towards the top.

The show finally ended around 10pm. Now that was much better than some old rerun!

Very beautiful. The plant may look like a dead bird but the flower is a masterpiece by nature.

    Thanks everyone.
The "other" cyreus has TEN buds on it. There's another bloom-watch night in my future. :stew2:

Hey stranger! Great pics, thanks for sharing. Such a beautiful flower for such a short life. How often do they bloom?

Hey Mrs. G. I was just thinking the other day that we haven't seen you around lately.
I have no clue how often it blooms... this was it's first time.
The "other" one bloomed for it's first time about a month ago and it should be blooming in a week or two.
