A Chat Thread to get to know some of you

I am new here, I have used a couple of other garden sites over the years on the internet. It will take me a little while to adjust to the format here, but one thing I really enjoy is making friends with other people that enjoy plants.

I have mostly flowers, sometimes I might plant a cucumber or a few tomatoes but most of what I grow is things that bloom. I do enjoy foliage plants if they are variegated or an unusual color.
I love, love, love daylilies and have around 300 different varieties. I do trade, but will not be trading any this spring, but will be glad to do some fall trades this year. I am holding off doing spring trades because a good friend of mine was flooded and may have lost a lot of hers, this year I want to help her with any I have that she wants, so in general my trading will be in the fall.

I am not new to Gardenstew, but I've only been in Texas about a year. Lots of people helped me get started last year. I will be moving again in a bit when our mobile gets set up somewhere. It's in the works so I will be starting again. I think I will be starting some things in my orange buckets soon. I just have to go through my seeds and see what I have. I want to rake out the long flower bed and see what might be returning from last year. I also need to sift the morning glory seeds and see how many of those I have. I may have enough to trade for something. I had that 100 foot wall of them along the house last year. Cajunbelle has a lot of daylilies. She is making a new bed for them, I think. You will meet lots of friendly, helpful people here for sure.

Hi, I live in NJ and have gardened every year during the 32 years I've had homes of my own. Right now, not much going on in my outside gardens, but I am enjoying my indoor plants. Small African Violets I purchased last fall at the supermarket have tripled in size and are covered in blooms. My orchids, the phaleonopsis and a dendrobium, are beginning to bloom, and my grandson has watched in awe as an amaryllis spike has grown several inches and bloomed during the course of his visits here. I love to see his three year old face light up when he sees it and his mother says he talks about it at home. It will give me great joy if he continues to love plants as he gets older.

 

Nothing going on outside here either, I do not have very much luck with inside plants, but I am dreaming of spring-hopefully it will come sooner than later.

Sandra and I know each other, but this will also give me a chance to get to know each of you.I always loved flowers, and always had them, but they were more of the pass along ones that friends shared with me.Then about 3 years ago I really got interested and it almost seems like i got a new lease on life! I had been a caregiver most my life, and if any of you know about that, you know how draining it is, not only physically, mentally, but spiritually as well. To see a plant you planted bloom, or a seed you started mature into a beautiful healthy plant, and bloom, is nothing short of a miracle, and truly feeds my soul. Now winter isn't helping though..LOL.. I want spring!

 

They are telling us we will get freezing stuff Thursday night--OH NO--I do not like SNOW !!

 

Little ole me

Well, I live in Ohio, and I have varied interests. I am a student. I haven't done *too* much gardening in my time, but I'm hoping to start come this spring. So I figure the more I integrate myself into the community, the more I'm gonna learn I really enjoy reading, yoga, and healthy living. I'm a very social person, and love meeting new people. I guess that's enough about me

 

Sue, are you a full time student and what are you studying ?
I am at home too, but I am disabled since 2001. My plants make me happy, you can bury a lot of trouble digging in the dirt-lol

 

I'm Norwegian, and that sort of explains everything.

I've gardened since I was little, first with my grandparents, then my mother, and finally on my own with my husband. He's into hostas big time, and I sort of balance out with lots of everything else.

I'm busy infecting my girls and grandchildren with the gardening bug. My two youngest have their own veggie patches, and we grow whatever they want to grow. Carrots, peas, calendula, pumpkins, tropaeolum and this year also purple brussels sprouts, at least that's the plan. Maybe beans and potatoes as well, if we have room.

We've also got two cats who lord it around the house, and two horses who are hard-working and spoilt rotten.

 

I can't get my girls interested in gardening, they like the pretty flowers, but they don't like the work it takes to have them.

Well I am over here in the UK where the garden is just about waking up for the new year. I have 2 allotments where I grow almost enough veggies to keep us sufficient for the whole year, and enough fruit for me to bottle, freeze, jam and chutney for the winter months. I have 2 urchins, but my 10 year old daughter has no interest in gardening what so ever, James, my 9 year old son is a keen digger and grower and loves to help me in the garden and on the allotment.

I look forward to getting to know all of our new stewbies as the seasons go past and can't wait to see photos of our 2009 plots.

 

I would think it would still be cold there, we are still having winter here, nothing waking yet
