Today started out warm and drizzly, then turned bright and sunny, which (of course) ended just before my workday did, since then it has become cold and damp and dull, but I took the camera out there and found a few bright spots :-D .
Ever wonder where Ladybugs snooze on a chilly day? The garden is looking pretty scruffy, we're down to the last few "blue ginger" blooms and one last little Echinacea and, there are only a few Impatiens left
Your garden is an award winner!!! I am blown away. Love the cannas, the shrimp plant, the echinacea, the pentas. What is that incredible plant in the first pic? And of course, who could not love your bushy tailed friend.
The Gloriosa Lily is beautiful. Mine did wonderful this spring, but did not come back for the fall, I hope they show up next spring and I haven't lost the bulbs. Everything is beautiful. What is the name of the blue ginger, I want to check our local nurseries this spring to see if they have it.

Wow I love your pictures they are goregous. The first flower is really impressive. I really want one of those. Aren't squirrels the cutest? We have lots of them around our house too.

Jan, That first one is Gloriosa rothschildiana ("Glory Lily"), a real fav of mine. I tried something new this year, and planted them in succession, about 3 weeks apart. It made for 3 distinct "waves" of flowers, early, mid and late summer. This particular one is a late-bloomer from the last group. Cajunbelle, the "blue ginger" isn't really a ginger, it's Dichorisandra thyrsiflora (which is actually a Tradescantia/Wandering Jew relative), so, not surprisingly, it starts very easily from cuttings, if you have any problems finding it, just let me know. Netty, you're exactly right, that's Salvia guaranitica ("Black and Blue Sage"), I love the chartreuse foliage almost as much as those cool flowers. I'm glad that you guys like squirrels, too. :-D I know that many gardeners have no great fondness for them, but I think they're just too cute and silly to get mad at. They can be little trouble makers, that's for sure, but I kinda figure that they don't do nearly as much damage to our spaces as we do to theirs.

Wow Zuzu I'm surprised we don't get to see pictures of your garden more often. I could look at it all day. And it definitely doesn't look like a November garden. I really like the statue area with the chairs and stone table. Oh so that where Ladybugs nap! One more thing.... where exactly is my Gnome House going to be among all that beauty?
I have saved your pics/names, so I can have some next spring. I wonder if the gloriosa will survive down in all this 8b heat. How did you EVER learn all that about plants?
