Remember all those gloating posts about how nice our Texas winter is? Remember how I tried to disguise my bragging as "sympathy" for those up north? Well, today I got my comeuppance.
The thermometer is at freezing and it isn't predicted to get any better. I had to go out the front door and take the long way to the barn because our wooden deck out the kitchen door is now a skating rink. The drizzle is freezing on contact with the ground, and the insulating cover blew off one of our outside spigots. The hens are upset (despite having a heat lamp, scratch, and tarp up to stop the wind in the new coop) and are refusing to lay eggs, or even talk to me. The absolute worst part is that tomorrow is supposed to be the same!
Okay folks, now you can giggle and point fingers. Right now I do truly have sympathy for y'all up north.

Not having had my fill of this type of weather I am perfectly happy about today. 29 deg , feels like 17 deg with the 13 mph winds, off and on sleet falling adding to the 1/2 inch already on the roads and ground and not reaching as high as 32 deg until sometime tomorrow.

I could borrow you a pair of our ice grippers....we each have a couple pairs and keep one pair in the vehicle we drive so we don't fall if we come across some icy areas walking. I have heard about so many falling this winter I do not want to take any chances and wreck my chance of gardening if I break a pelvis or something...sorry to hear about your weather.... Hopefully it will warm up soon. We are cold here but we are going through some weather that we have dealt with every winter.

It's getting colder by the minute but no ice or sleet. YET. Tomorrow morning will be the best chance of any icing and probably just on bridges and overpasses. It's only supposed to warm up to the mid 40s. Then near or at freezing for the rest of the week but warming up to the low 50s.
Hope you girls huddle up and stay warm, Jane!

So .... Jane you didn't like the surprise parcel of Scottish winter weather I sent you then? :( Oh dear and I made sure it got to you quickly too. Wait ... I could send you some 30 mph winds instead if you like combined with snow, hail or sleet. :D

Eileen, the winds arrived, and thank you. Remind me to send you a package of 102 degrees in the shade this summer. I'll even include a tube of sunscreen . . . .

Yup ... another cold one here too at -23°C. We broke another record here today - coldest February 24th since the old record from 1971. Jane, that 102°F sounds really good right now!

:smt100Enough already--now it's snowing! Why, oh why is this happening to me? I'm moved to swear.
My husband thinks it's hilarious and is actually taking pictures of the nasty stuff. I'll post later when the tranquilizers kick in.

Snark deleted. I don't want to offend anyone, as for the swearing, I've been doing more than enough for every member of the 'stew for the past week or two.

Raising pigs and produce in Costa Rica sounds more promising every day. 10 acres and a nice 2 bedroom can be had for around 75K US. Who's with me?

Snow started about 7:30 this morning,, at 2:00 we had 4 inches of wet white snow. Stopped about 3:00 and started melting. By 4:30 about half had already melted. Now we have 4 inches of slush. Will be 70 degrees by Sunday. Gotta` love Texas weather!

FBG, I have the terrible feeling that if I moved to Costa Rica, they would immediately have the worst winter on record. For some reason, Mother Nature seems to have it in for me.
If you go to Costa Rica, I'll come visit when the first snowflake appears here in Texas. I'll even bring pig kibble.
