It seems like I am changing stylist 4 x a year lately. My hair grows fast so I never did start to color it. You look great Ronni and you are the only one that it will be really bother until they are all grown out. It never bothered me having gray hair seeing the rest of me is getting older too.
Ronni, I think when you get used to it you'll like it. I didn't mind my hair going grey, other than the reverse skunk stripe I had going on! It finally got so odd looking, almost white hair with this very dark stripe running from the top of my head back that a young person commented that she liked my dye job!
OK, so here we are 7 weeks later, with more gray showing but less hair (I had her cut it just a bit shorter this time. It's still not easy to see the gray at least from a front view....because my hair doesn't lay flat to my head, the skunk stripe is somewhat disguised. You can see more of the gray in the close up side and back shots I think.
Evidently my hair didn't like the way it looked on my head. So it left! Haven't seen it in about 15 years!
I too have considered letting mine grow out gray but just haven't decided yet. Keep posting your progress, you might encourage me! I started graying in high school and passed it on to our kids. Our son is now pretty darn gray in his mid 20's, and I noticed those first gray "sparkles" in our daughter's hair too. It's all my fault! The last time I started letting it gray, the kids were around 10 years old, and I got tired of people asking them if they were enjoying their day with their grandma (I was in my early 30's at the time). I'd be 100% gray now. On the bright side, I would probably be offered senior discounts!
Well now I've gone and done it. I had my long hair chopped off to a very short hairdo today. No more hair color for me, I'm just tired of it. My hair is a pretty dark hair dye, so we're not going to lighten it, just let it grow out and keep it really short so it takes less time. The back will be gray in no time because I'll keep it so short. Front will take longer, but it's only 4" long, so 8-10 months maybe? Have hats to wear in the meantime if I want.
Well I didn't really think about taking before and after photos at the time, but I managed to put something together. I guess this is "before", going from long to short hair. Give it 6 months and I should have some idea of "after".
Ronni, I have let mine go gray too. So much easier...(big sigh of relief). Then last summer I decided to try bright blue...probably won't do that again. Had to color it twice to get the funky color out so it is still growing out. Maybe turquoise next time instead. I only do crazy stuff in the summer do I have time to reconsider any crazy thoughts....not that I ever do.
Oh wow, I LOVE your new look! Short hair really suits you! And is that some gray I see right at the crown of your head? I'm looking forward to more updates and pics from you.....we can journey on this adventure together! Oh Man! I've actually thought I might experiment with rinses in my hair, once all the color's grown out, to color the "salt" part of the salt and pepper look I'm going to have. But hearing what you've said, it's making me possibly rethink that! On the other hand, I tend to do crazy stuff too, so maybe I'll go for it anyway!
OK, so here's the latest update. The gray is sloooooowly growing out. Actually, my hair grows really fast, it just feels slow because the skunk strip is getting more noticeable in comparison to the color, and it's making me a little crazy. Back Side Top I have close to 2" of gray grown out now. If I were brave enough to get a really short pixie cut, I could be all gray! But I'm not, at least not yet. Before this is over though, I may well just cut it all off in a fit of pique and frustration! Meanwhile though I'm suffering through. Because I keep it styled in a sort of tousled look so that it the hair doesn't lay on my scalp, it's harder to see the demarcation line between colors, so that's good. I AM going to persevere! I AM!! <she says desperately, trying to convince herself!!>
That's what I was just thinking, you've got enough to pixie it and have the dye be gone! I can't wait for mine to grow out enough to cut all the dye out. I've got a while to go yet. My dark color has been fading like mad, which is helping the grays start to show through and blend a little better than I expected.
Yeah, I do have enough gray now for a pixie cut, but it's such a drastic change that I'm going to persevere a bit more. On the other hand, summer is just around the corner so if I did decide to do it, I'll be in the right season for it! Is your dark color the result of a permanent dye or one of the semi-permanent ones that just fades over time rather than growing out? How much gray is coming through now?
