Beautiful photos Eils, the Lake District sure is stunning and unspoilt. The ducks have a wonderful place to hang out. I like how you had the willpower to keep out of the garden centre! Sorry to hear about the windscreen. The say third time's a charm though so maybe one more trip wouldn't be so bad?
Yes indeedy Eileen that is an adult Male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) with a colouring considered mutated. Such an extraordinary duck. I felt there was something familiar about it but just could not pull it up from my years ago memory banks. I have never seen one with this colouring. I suspect it may be rare in the UK, but am not sure. At any rate, you have an excellent photo of it and i'm glad you shared it with us.
What a wonderful vacation and to such a beautiful place! At least until the end. I'm so sorry you had to cut it short.
What moving piccies, Eileen--especially that first one. That really makes me want to come over that way again. The water, the birds the magnolias---blimey meid, that was a great pictorial. T'was a real shame that you had that windscreen damage. I was surprised to hear how long it would have taken to have gotten your windscreen replaced at your BB location. Unimaginable actually. Well, you guys still saw some great sights and no doubt enjoyed your B&B's. Tell something about the B&B's. We get that show from over there called "4 in a Bed", or something like that. I like seeing the B&B's and being introduced to the sometimes quirky owners, but I do not care for the acrimonious comments sometimes. I have seen a few good-looking ones, although I find the prices sometimes shocking. Now Eileen, I couldn't belieeeeeeve it (as ole Victor would say), when I heard you refused to go into the Garden centre. What HAS happened to you?! hahahaha. Oh dear. Are there more pics?
I agree Sjoerd, I think there is real cause for concern here. I read right over the garden center remark and then went back to it thinking what did she say???? Eileen, i think this means you are going to have to go back
