I really like the yellow and red together - very cheerful. I thought I wasn't a tulip fan either but now I'm hooked on them.:)

Thank you! I must say, if only this whole renovation-thing wasn't so stressfull, it would be even better. A magic wand would be nice, so I could wave it and all would be finished :p. If only I could find this little shop where Harry (Potter) got his from...... :D
Anyway, those tulip bulbs will be dug up later this year, but I may well plant some botanical or parrot ones. We'll see, plenty of time to ponder on that. The two trees will be removed, because they are way too big for such a small garden. Already thinking of what tree (just one) I'll plant in the middle somewhere instead. For me a garden isn't quite a garden without a tree in it, you see, so in a way it also pains me a bit to have to say goodbye to those two guys :(.
Next time there'll probably be a few more photo's, because we've set our handyman a bit of a deadline. He's picking up speed! :stew1:

Well, I wouldn't be a Stewbie if I didn't get that "itch" to go and dig around in the garden, especially this time of year. This is especially the case with my new garden. There are a few cases of, err, "overgrowth", that need seeing to before things get even more out of hand. One of them is, or rather, was, the huge cherry laurel outside the back door ("before" pictures previously posted here). After one afternoon of hacking and sawing (boyfriend did the sawing), it looked like this

    20150504_191710.jpg 20150504_191728.jpg 20150504_191739.jpg

Sorry for the bad quality of the photo's, but my regular camera keeps giving "low bat" errors (guarantee period has elapsed :(). I now take photo's with my smartphone which I consequently still need to reduce in size. Leaving them even fuzzier.

Looks good. It always takes a lot of time and money to get a house the way you want it.

That must have taken quite a while to achieve. I hope you aren't going to be feeling battered after all that work. It's certainly opened that space up nicely. Well done!!

Thanks Eileen and Ms Kitty, and yes, the day after was a rather painful one. All worth it, though! :D

The pain will be forgotten once it is gone but the result of the effort will be there to be enjoyed! You and your BF had done so much to transform the garden.:)

After what seems many months, I finally find myself at the computer again. Each time I had a spare minute, there were household chores to do, and the rare occasions I managed to turn on the computer, I ended up asleep after just a few minutes :D
Of course all this means that lots has been done in the house, here's an impression:

The cherry-laminate I had in storage for 7 years.....

    IMG-20150513-WA0025.jpg

We were 1 room short. Cherry no longer available, we had to make do with a different type, same dimentions so it would fit.....

It all still needs finishing touches, but you get the idea.

A week ago the wallpaper went up in the bedroom & the lounge, and the protective covering finally came off the oak floor downstairs:

The wallpaper upstairs, but due to the bad quality of this photo, you cannot see that there are actually 2 alternating rows of the same pattern, there is also a silver one between the white.

I am pleased as Punch with the results :)

The only thing that's giving us a real headache is the new front door. The paintwork is a nightmare, the 2 panes of insulated glass are both damaged, the right one steams up from the inside, i.e. "leaks" :crying:

    20150524_161409.jpg

Due to the cool & windy weather, there's not much activity on the garden-front. The only thing my boyfriend & I did was move a couple of sleepers. Silly me deleted the photo's off my mobile before placing them in my "cloud", so now I'll have to take some more. Tomorrow they are delivering 36m of skirting boards for the laminate upstairs, and if I remember, I'll take the pictures then. :stew1:

It's coming up very well and how is the staircase?

KK, the staircase is the only thing in the house that's my baby, in other words I have now singlehandedly sanded it, partly by hand, partly machine. Now ready for it's first coat of paint, just need to find an address to buy the special basecoat paint the painter/decorator (who did the wallpaper) recommended (which will make the paintwork last for years and years, so worth getting). He gets it at the trade-store, which doesn't sell to non-tradesmen. I'll give the trades-shop a ring, & ask if they can make an exception for me. If not, I'll have to search the net I guess. Or do without this special basecoat. :stew1:

All those piccies are great shots that really shows what you have been doing. Pity they ran out of the cherry laminate. Ach--our flat has two different colours as well. I got used to it.

The outside work looks quite heavy. I hope that you feed your friend well so that he can keep up the good heavy work.
Do you have a global idea of when the project may actually be completed?
I forgot...are you already sleeping there? If not any idea when you will be able to?

I have to say that it all looks pretty darn good so far.
    Strength further.

Oh mine I didn't know that places like that existed :(. I thought as long as one can pay for a product then the person is entitled to buy it!

Hmmm ... how about asking the painter/decorator to buy on you behalf!;)

The garden is changing, lots of stuff appearing and disappearing.......

    IMG-20150525-WA0007.jpg

    Moved some sleepers

    IMG-20150525-WA0005.jpg

    Added some plants....

    IMG-20150612-WA0004.jpg

    And removed part(s) of others

    IMG-20150617-WA0002.jpg

    IMG-20150617-WA0010.jpg

Not all of the trees have gone yet, the trailer was full!

    IMG-20150617-WA0003.jpg

BF made me an outdoor tap, which was at the top of my wish list :smt041

    IMG-20150616-WA0010.jpg

And indoors, a little idea of mine finally took shape, thanks to our handyman, who specialises in carpentry.....

    IMG-20150617-WA0008.jpg

    IMG-20150617-WA0001.jpg

And we discovered some really funky tiles behind the toilet cystern

    Retro tegels achter wc.jpg

Moved some furniture in our very small car :chuckle:

    Past net!.jpg

    IMG-20150604-WA0010.jpg

Looks a bit sad, I know, but it's nice to at least have one comfy seat to sit and have a nice cup of tea every now and then :)

There are still quite a few things that need painting, such as the stairs, the new shelves, and maybe also the blue wall. Although I love the colour, it makes the room just too dark. (in winter/early spring, you don't notice, but now the large trees at the front of the house have leaves, they take away all the light, making the dark paint seem even darker).
I've also started moving in my houseplants :stew1:

Oh my you two have been busy haven't you? Everything is coming together so well. You must be proud of yourselves to have a achieved so much already. I would do as KK suggested and ask the painter/decorator to get the paint you need for the stairs for you.
If you don't want to to lose the blue paint altogether how about masking the wall up and leaving a strip of the blue in place? You could then paint the rest in a lighter colour of your choice.
Would it be possible to replace the glass in the door or is it way too expensive? Maybe heavy duty Perspex could be a cheaper way of accomplishing what you want.
I'm rather envious of your outside tap as I've always wanted one in the garden. It will make watering so much easier for you.
Keep up the good work and take lots more photographs for us as we enjoy seeing work in progress and before and after shots.
