    Hello,

Simple Cali raised girl doing the big city balcon gardening :)
Its working out but I do wish to grow more stuff such as MELONS!!!! Its so hard to find ripe delicious melons here, anyone agrees?

I attempt to grow catnip.... My cat likes to sit in the pot so it never grows more then one inch. I also grow lettuce, microgreens, French thyme, Greek & Italian oregano and few Basil :)
Arugula is my favorite to grow, because it grows really fast and I almost ALWAYS have fresh Arugula to throw into my salad.

I am not crazy about gardening at the moment but I want to learn, I am moving into a house soon and will have a big backyard to plant stuff in. So I figured a forum like this could help me learn more about the " do and don't" on gardening.

I am looking forward to read everyone's post and see pictures, any info is helpful.

    XOXO

I'm sure, that before long, you'll be bitten by the gardening bug ready for making a start in your new yard. Ask as many questions as you need, no matter how trivial they may seem, as we love to help others out here.

:setc_034:Welcome to Garden Stew Alexis. How exciting to have a new garden space to fill up. The people here are wonderful and many of them have years of experience just waiting to share with you. There is a good mix of new gardeners and experienced gardeners so don't feel like you are the only new gardener just starting out. Enjoy!

Love your enthusiasm Alexis! and you know what, gardens do too and they respond in kind. I really believe this...do you think that's weird? Are you a southern Cali girl or a northern Cali girl?

    I'm a Southern!
My mom believes if you treat a plant right and talk to them nicely in a soft tone and tell them that they are beautiful, the plants will like it and grow stronger and prettier :) it's like complimentaribg a beautiful girl.

Your mom is right! I give all my plants love pats, especially the seedlings...3 gentle little pats on the top to let them know they are loved and welcomed and will be well cared for. Ah a southern, okay so you are in a warmer climate that probably doesn't freeze in winter? Melons will grow fast in the heat and other things too and you have more options of the kinds of things you can grow. What fun:setf_016::setc_005:

Alexis. Sounds like you are on the right track to having a fun time gardening. I love your plant care advice. I have one house plant this is looking pretty sad. But then I keep telling it if it doesn't grow it's the compost pile for you. Maybe I need to give it a little TLC. Welcome aboard from a Stewbie in Wis.
