Happy Wednesday afternoon. Dang, I've been so busy with work I haven't even checked in. I put in WAAYY too many hours last week. Even worked half a day on Saturday.
But it's back to "normal" now. Whew!!! Nice weather lately... temps from low 70s to low 90s and a couple little rain showers here and there.
I actually went plant shopping at lunch today... need some color out there... so I picked up some annual to fill a pot or two.
Plus I'm getting ready for Plant Sale #2 in 3 weeks. Time to feed and weed those containers and get info tags ready.

It doesn't feel like fall is coming yet. It was 87 degrees today. We belong to a Writer's Group that meets at the Senior Center every Wednesday from 1 pm to 3 pm. We generally try to go and have some lunch before we go. Today, we just stopped at a convenience store and got a hot sandwich and ate it while we waited for the bus. We made it there about ten minutes to one. We were the first ones there but some others showed up by one. We always have to write a warm up exercise before the meeting starts. Today the "leader" gave us a picture of a cat and a deer nose to nose on the ground. We had to write a short piece about it. There were varied takes on the subject. It was interesting how many things people can see in the same picture. My story today was about the four seasons, spring, summer, winter and fall. Fall is my favorite season and winter is my least favorite season. I'm not fond of the rainy springs or the humid summers so I'd really like fall to stay around longer. dooley

Good Thursday morning all. Currently 17°C and clear. This is my 'Friday' as I have the day off tomorrow, so it's going to be a busy one trying to get 2 days work done in one. It going to be a hot one too and I foresee some hose dragging. Have a great day all :)

Good morning all! Nice, cool and fresh morning here.
I'm sure you were able to write a good piece Dooley as you know how to write animals as interesting characters. I love your Susie the Goat stories!

    Have a terrific Thursday all!

Good morning all. Some day summer will give up and go away, but not for a few more days it appears. The temps are still in the 95-100 deg range with the heat index hovering on the high side of 100. The wonderful 3 inches of rain we got a week ago yesterday is nothing but a memory, the cracks in the black clay are back and getting larger.

I joined CoCoRaHs yesterday, it's the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. Volunteers all around the country keep track of those three weather conditions in their area and report anything that happens daily, then the National Weather Service and many universities and others get info on what's happening. Waiting for my official rain gauge to arrive to get started. It was started in Colorado and is still run by Colorado State University http://www.cocorahs.org/Content.aspx?page=aboutus

We were supposed to have rain today. We had a brief shower around 1 pm but now the sun is shining. I think the most of the storm went north of us as usual. They are still saying severe thunderstorms starting around midnight and going into tomorrow. Still temps in the 80's. dooley

We will see how we did at about noon today when the fair opens. Keeping my fingers crossed we did well! Happy Friday morning. And only a half-day of work today. woohooo! I've got a client that's in Pest Control, she's loaning me a trap for that blasted armadillo that's been tearing up my flower beds. Hope I catch him, quick!
Speaking of traps, a friend brought over his hog trap a couple of weeks ago, caught the 3 wild hogs that tore up the garden area.... no more digging since.
This weekend's chore? Get rid of my berry area. The black berries are either dead and/or over taken by briars. I let the strawberries die off since all I was doing was feeding the birds. Raccoons helped themselves to my cantaloupes. So why keep up all this work? Not to mention that extra weeding it causes. I may add some later (in big pots). But for now, I'm sticking to my flowers (and peppers).

Cheryl, I'm so sorry you have had such problems with predators. Fortunately the 'dillo ought to be easy to trap (they aren't the brightest star in the sky!).
I cleaned out my basket collection this morning--there are baskets all over the house holding everything from wood stove kindling to magazines to garlic and potatoes (in the kitchen, of course). Out of a collection of about 30 baskets (not counting the five harvest baskets hanging in the barn) I was able to part with two, and that was traumatic. I think the neighbors are beginning to call me the "wicker witch of the west!"

Jane, I have 20 baskets around the house holding a wide variety of things too, from cotton that I grew a few years ago to my new sewing machine and yarn. And that's not counting the 11 we are now using on the shelves we built last weekend to hold the clothes from the dresser and chest of drawers we used to have in the bedroom. Many of my woven baskets were replaced by wooden ones so I would have had at least 3 more.

Morning all. According to one of the local TV weather groups today will either be 95, 97 or 99....they have 5 meteorologists working for them and you would think they could agree on this one thing. I can think of at least one of them they can get rid of and make their information more accurate. I guess it really doesn't matter since all those guesses mean it's going to be HOT again today....and dry.

Good morning all! We have a second cattle test today so that means we need to gather them all up again. They are spread over five locations so there is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing
    Have a relaxing Saturday all!

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 17°C and drizzling. We sure need some rain so I am not going to complain! Today will be spent indoors, stewing down tomatoes, canning apples, carrots and beans. I did well at the fair, my biggest surprise was a 1st place ribbon for my Pomegranate Jelly! More fair fun later for the demolition derby, not my favorite event at all, but the kids like it. Have a great day all :)
Frank - what is a cattle test?

Just another hot and dry one here. I am making a list of plants that have had the life sucked out of them after 5 years of hot and dry.....Yarrow, Monarda, Guara, Pineapple Sage, Lamb's Ear, Bugloss. They will be pulled up and added to the compost barrel. There will be quite a few empty spaces in the garden but I think I will fill them with garden junque in place of plants, so much easier to maintain.

Toni, so sorry that some plants just didn't withstand the hot and dry. It happens to all of us, but that doesn't make it any easier on the gardener. Despite having generally good luck with herbs, I have learned to treat pineapple sage as an annual.
Cleaned the coop this morning with two hens supervising--they sit on the roost and watch, and sometimes discuss how hard it is to get good help these days.
Made more hummingbird nectar, and have jambalaya on the stove now. The nectar is for the hummers, the jambalaya is for our dinner--hope I don't get them confused.

    Good day Stewbies!
Poor hummers if you don't get it right mg! Ours just left and are probably headed your way!
So sorry about your plants Toni. We lost our blueberry plants to the heat this year, but the rest of the garden handled the heat and smoke very well, surprisingly.
    Have a great day all!
