An acquaintance stopped by to ask if she could borrow a gardening book--non-specific, any gardening book would do. I told her I valued my books and didn't loan them out. Her reply? "But you have so many!" Well yes, but only one copy of each.
Isn't there a place in town that loves for you to borrow books.....they give you a card....lib...somthing, ends in y I think. I'll bet they have more gardening books than you. They are open 10:00 to 7:00 today. Jerry
Just an acquaintance I wouldn't loan one to either. Shoot, some friends don't get that privilege either...especially those who loose what is loaned to them meaning I have to buy another one.
Great idea Mart!! I once, and only once, loaned a book to a friend. When I asked for it back I was told that they'd lent it to someone else and that they'd moved away. Never will I make the same mistake again. Now all my books stay on my shelves and will stay there until I'm six foot under.
Nope, I don't lend out books either. Or tools. I have learned from experience ... things don't get returned the way they were, or sometimes not at all. I worked hard to get the things I have and so I keep them close.
Find her one at goodwill/thrift or recycle store and give it to her as a gift... if any gardening book will do. Then you don't have to worry bout what she is going to do with it. Weird request though, if any gardening book would do.
Netty, I once made the mistake of loaning a pry bar to a neighbor. When said neighbor had a garage sale, guess what was on the $1 table? Carolyn, I think she wanted to use the book to decorate her coffee table, making it seem that she gardened (like anyone walking up to her front door would be fooled by a coffee table book!). Frank, eeewwwwww . . . .
