That Pieris japonica 'Andromeda' is incredible! I haven't seen a pieris japonica like it. Do you happen to know the cultivar?

Thanks for the link Philip. I wonder if your variety is this one:
'Mountain Fire' - Quickly becoming one of the most popular cultivar, this plant is most famous for the spectacular new growth, which emerges a vivid orange-red color. The display of new foliage is far more impressive than the white flowers. The plant is truly stunning as the new growth emerges. (Taken from the U of Conn database, above).

I think you're about a month ahead of me Philip. My Fuchsia magellancia has yet to form flower buds. Last year was the first time that I didn't cut it down to the ground (weather was horrendous) so I'm waiting to see what difference it makes to its growth this year.

Love that andromeda, love them hostas! love them clematis! BTW I grow some of my hostas in pots too. Their form lend them to pots as they have such a nice rounded outline.

Eileen,..we have had a great spell of very warm weather which boosted up the plants,..today the first rose of summer appeared,..i always like their start in summer,..i was thinking of pruning my Fuchsia,..then skipped doing so,..i will be curious to see how yours fared after the pruning back,..looking at mine today i am afraid i will have to reduce it somewhat,..its 10Ft high and the same in width,..too wide in fact.

Cayuga Morning,..there was a time when slugs were plentiful in my garden and so to protect the Hostas i placed them in large containers with a copper band around the containers,..it worked,..this year i need to replace some of those copper bands but they are not on the hardware shelf anymore,..so its slug pellets instead,..hedgehogs will not be bothered with tiny snails,..its those that have attacked my Hostas way back,..Hostas really do have a rounded outline and look great in containers.

    IMG_2038.JPG

The Hosta on the top right was an offshoot of the one on the bottom right but turned out a different color.
    IMG_2046.JPG

A friend cracked his fish tank and was going to dump it,..i took it on board as its great for protecting and boosting up some plants,.."Clara",..looking at Hens and Chicks.
    IMG_2039.JPG

Pansie seedlings taken out of the greenhouse today,..there are a few more elsewhere.
    IMG_2029.JPG

First rose of summer for me,..a no ID rose.

Oops. I really meant to type fuschias not clematis!

Your hostas look so lush....beautiful. I had yanked a bunch of mine out of the garden because they really do attract deer here (and thus deer ticks and thus lyme disease).....but they all pleaded with me so eloquently that I potted them up instead of heaving them on the compost heap! They look quite fetching amidst pots of herbs on my back stoop.

(Actually 2 of them did get heaved (hoved?) on the compost heap, where they merrily made themselves at home! They have since been rescued.)

BTW, beautiful rose! The first is the best!

Lol,..my mind went blank when i read Clematis,..i couldn't remember posting a picture of them and had to check,..sometimes my mind state is best described as being on automatic,..doing something but not thinking about it.

Thankfully i don't have any deer wandering about here which is bad enough,..i never thought about the ticks coming on board as well and the consequences,..lyme disease is not something a person wants to contact.

So your hostas made a plea and succeeded,..they were worth saving,..i always feel they look so tropical,..so many variations in color and leaf shape plus they multiply.

Amazing how many plants we gardeners rescue from compost heaps lol.

Oh something you will certainly appreciate,..two friends of yours,..'Clivia',..they are both in my hallway,..one quite bigger than the other.

Clara looks as though she's saying "Funniest looking hen and chicks I've ever seen, I wonder what they taste like?"
I have a clivia lily too and it's just finished flowering. My roses are just beginning to bud up and there's no sign of any of my pansies yet. As for my hostas they've been shredded by slugs now that the hedgehogs appear to have gone elsewhere.

I did mention hens and chicks to Clara when i was taking the picture,..Clara didn't even blink,..just gave the usual squint and stare,..though call our his name and he comes running.

Lucky you about the Clivia flowering,..nothing doing with mine,..ah those slugs can devastate hostas,..i suppose like me you hate resorting to slug pellets,..i was sitting enjoying the sunshine in the garden but needed something to occupy my hands so i started stripping the covering on a strip of copper wire,..if the copper band works against slugs when its around a container i think a copper wire will work likewise.

A stray cat was chased by Clara,..right through my Delphiniums,..breaking off two small pieces,..not that i needed any more Delphiniums but as the pieces were long enough to save i dipped them in rooting powder about two weeks ago,..looks like they both have rooted.
