June 1st 2016,..temperature in the garden today was 33C-94F,........very warm weather,..rain in Paris stopped the Tennis. Campuna portenschuagiana. Sweet Alyssum ( White ). Mimulus. No ID Rose. Some General Views. Magpie. Coal Tit. Blue Tit.
Beautiful shots Philip. Molly is looking good. 94 degrees?? Isn't that unusual for Ireland? I thought you all couldn't grow the warm weather vegies like tomatoes squash and melons.....?
Thanks Cayuga Morning,..our climate surprises everyone,..in that we don't have a set climate,..today was 92F in the garden,..a tad less outside. Climate of Ireland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In the last decade temperatures have risen here,..rainfall has increased,..winter being mild as usual,..so we have fields of Corn,..Blueberries,..Melons,..just about everything,..of course lots of Potatoes lol,..dinner wouldn't be the same without that Veg. A new rose from a cutting,..No ID,..not very impressed with the first bloom but i will give it a chance before deciding should it go or stay. Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ) Helleborus orientalis ' Double Ellen Picotee '
I hope you've decided to keep the new rose as she's a real beauty Philip. I haven't seen any Double Ellen Picotee's for sale around here but if/when I do I'll be investing in one.
the Picotee is the only one still producing new blooms,..and growing bigger,..as for the rose i will wait a spell before making final judgement,.. the other blooms might be more compact,.. like its other cutting mate which looks just fine.
Thank you Anisa,..some more roses captured today,..the parent rose from which i took the cuttings to produce the roses above in response to Eileen,..below. Another of its offspring. Rose ( Rosa ' Memorie ' ) also sold as Rose ( Rosa ' Ice Cream ' ). Rose ( Rosa ' Korresia ' ) No ID Roses. Mimulus.
Oh Philip I admire your productive green thumb, always producing this new rose or that new something from a cutting (or a seed?). I have tried layering various shrubs: roses, PJM rohodies, azaleas, but naught have survived so far. sigh. Maybe in a different life...
Cayuga Morning,..that productive green thumb is never at rest,..it always wants to be starting something off,..with new shoots coming on bushes and plants,.. now is my time to begin a rose from cutting,..selecting a new shoot that has not flowered,..cut below a node,..stick it in rooting powder,..then into the side of a pot with soil that wont dry out too quick,..that's it,..the cutting will have taken long before winter arrives,..over winter it in a greenhouse to be on the safe side,..come next spring you will have a new rosebush
June 3rd 2016,..very warm day. First bloom from Clematis 'Dorothy Walton'. Cranesbill Geraniums bloomed today. Nepeta cataria ' Catmint '. With Oxalis debilis,..in the background. Oxalis debilis. Some General Views taken today.
Philip, I don't have a greenhouse & our winters here in New England are much harsher. I wonder if that is part of my problem. But I know I should be able to start plants by layering. I think it is that I am still working & don't have the tie to carefully attend to them.
I have never tried Layering with roses,..yet its supposed to be the easiest where other plants are concerned because of the parent plant still attached and providing the energy to begin new roots,..none of my roses would have branches low enough to begin Layering,..if push came to shove i could provide a stand with a container of soil to start Layering. Not having a Greenhouse means young cuttings might not survive over your winter,..small bubble wrap covering would do the job for you in lieu of a Greenhouse,..don't give up on making a new rose,..starting off early in Spring would give you ample time to harden a cutting for the winter season,..if roses survive outdoors in your area then you should succeed,..you know that saying,..if at first you don't succeed,..then try and try again
Lol,..you must produce a rose,..sometimes its the easiest method used that produces one,..i know someone who just sticks a cutting in a pot and,.. whoopee he has a rose,..no rooting powder or gel,..no covering either
Every month i purchase six Chicken Breast Fillets in Bread Crumbs. I do like the product but that's not the real reason i purchase it,..believe me its for the plastic tray,..its 12 inches long by 9 inches wide and deep enough to hold most garden flowerpots. The big mystery bulb i am more convinced its a Leopard Lily,..it has all the markings,..it may have even flowered and i missed it because it was back then growing amidst the Dahlias.
