Good morning all. Our wonderful winter type weather is a thing of history for now, we are back to spring temps. Some prognosticators say we will have no winter to speak of and some are bringing, to me, the hope of what has been called at various times over the years......Great Blue Norther, Siberian Express, McFarland Signature, Polar Vortex and what I usually refer to as 'my kind of weather' Cold, wet, maybe snow/ice, but some time where the thermometer doesn't get to use any numbers above 50.
Licenter I have the hot weather version of SAD, quite unusual but nothing normal ever happens to my family members, starting in late January I start getting more and more depressed because summer will be settling in all too soon. I frantically do my gardening in late Winter/ early Spring and really enjoy it but only when the temps are below 75. From May through Sept (sometimes like this year even through October) I stay inside and never look at the garden except when leaving or coming home because everything is missing my attention. Not until the first really good cool front of the fall/early winter do I come out of the 'blues' and feel alive again.

I can understand that toni. Let's face it extremes are exactly that, and can play heck with a large amount of people. Not sure I could handle your Texas summers either.

Have you tried light therapy? SAD can be treated quite effectively with a 10,000 lux light used once a day in the morning. You can add a few light bulbs together to get to 10,000 lumens (the lumen output is listed on the bulb package) and put it about three feet (a meter if you're so inclined) away for 20 minutes each morning. Don't look directly at the light, and if it hurts your eyes, move back until it doesn't. The new LED bulbs are good for this since they are available in daylight models, and don't generate heat.

Thanks Evil Roy. No I have not tried indoor lighting as yet, but I do try to get out in the sunlight as much as possible each and everyday.

Make sure you're in the sunlight within 30 minutes of waking. After that, the effects are very limited.

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently 7 degrees and overcast. It's been a rough few days. Furnace quit, washing machine broke, internet tower broke and I am SO tired of waiting for people to come fix things. Thank heavens for a woodstove and a cellular internet connection! I also get the job of taking my sons (newer used) car in for a repair today. Just wondering how THAT is going to end! I feel so frustrated!! Have a good day all :)

Good evening all. It has been a busy two days, had to take Randy to the eye doctor in a rush on Monday and found out that one of his retinas was detaching. That Dr. called the retina specialist, we had an appt with him about an hour later and scheduled surgery for this morning at 8 a.m. Surgery was a success, now Randy has to catch up on sleep (we had to be at the surgery center by 6 this morning and with nerves in abundance neither of us slept very well last night). In about 6 weeks he will be released from that Dr.'s care and life will get back to normal.....at least as normal as life is for us considering our family histories. : )
I am hoping to spend as much of Wednesday and Thursday as I can in the garden, even if it's just sitting on the ground and counting clumps in the soil.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 8 degrees C and overcast. I did feel a few raindrops while walking the dog, but thats all the rain we got. We are still WAY below our rain requirements. In fact, that is the reason my washing machine is acting strange...low water level in our well. Still waiting for the furnace repair man, internet repair man, and the car repair was put off until Thursday. So nothing has changed around here at all. I'm getting rather cranky about it all! My packages are starting to come from my cyber shopping spree over the weekend. Tomorrow is December 1st so maybe I'll start digging out the Christmas decorations. Have a great day all :)

Good Thursday afternoon all. Currently 4°C and overcast. Internet repairman was here yesterday, and so all is well in that area. The furnace repairman on the other hand, is still waiting for the part. This is the 7th day without heat from my brand new furnace. To say I am angry is putting it lightly. Thank God we have a woodstove and the weather has been unseasonably mild this week. I can not even begin to put into words the anger I feel towards this so called heating expert!!
Taking my sons car in for repair this afternoon. I pray that all goes well, especially because of the foul mood I am in today.
Have a good day all :)

Netty, I feel your frustration, and I hope all the repairs go well, and go soon! We got an "internet provider" that was slower than dial up, half the time we had no internet, and when I called to mention we were not getting what we paid for, he said it would be "better soon." After I reamed him out I felt so much better--so let the slackers know you are not happy.
(by the way, he is out of business now!)

Good Friday morning all. Currently 4°C and windy.
Day 8 with no heat. Furnace man showed up last night with the part that was supposed to fix my furnace. It was taking him a long time and I kept hearing him click on an off our breaker switch. He finally came up and admitted defeat ... "I can't get it to turn on". I was speechless. Today, he is getting me a brand new furnace. After that new furnace is installed and working, I will NEVER call this place again. To top it off, my son got laid off today. It just keeps getting better around here.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently -6°C and sunny. Everything is covered in a pretty layer of frost.
Furnace was re-installed on Friday evening and is working wonderfully. Thank goodness for another crisis solved. Hubby seems to have fixed my washing machine, so I will test it out later.
Internet connection is working well now too. All we need to do now is find my son a new job.
Have a great day all :)

Netty, so glad things are looking up for you! The only good thing about getting slammed with furnace/washing machine/internet problems all at once, is that they get taken care of all at once and don't drag on for months. What kind of work does your son want?
It's overcast and chilly today, so I'm only outside when I have to be. I think I'll bake some Christmas cookies and stash them in the freezer for giving later this month, and maybe make a pot of chili (with beans, I don't care what Texan chili purists say!).

Good afternoon all. Chilly and overcast here today too. Where is the 1-3 inches of rain that was forecast for us Friday through Monday? It certainly didn't happen in my yard, we have had under a half an inch in total!! Oh, well, if the weather forecaster got anything correct I would probably pass out in a dead faint.

On the rare occasions we had chili when I was a kid it came out of a can with a can of pinto beans added to it. That made one can enough to feed four people and of course there were saltine crackers served with it. Certainly not Texas chili style and my Mom never heard of cornbread being served with it, but then I have mentioned my Mom's cooking before.

I am almost finished with the last of the reading shawls I am making for gifts for the 'girls' in our family. I always have at least two projects on needles at all times, that way I can work on what I feel like when I sit down to knit. So the sweater I started for myself last year and the one I started for myself this month and a baby afghan for Project Linus will be my winter work after the holidays.
