My home city is looking bright and seasonal just now. Here is a short slideshow around some of the old streets.

    Merry Christmas to All

Very interesting :) Love all the street scenes - right out of a Charles Dickens novel ;)

@Islandlife Yes IL it does look a bit Dickensian after dark. And in the spirit of Christmas our favourite little Turkish restaurant is offering a meal to homeless on Christmas day.

Well done Mehmet and his family. What a great gesture......

Say Rad--was that meal gratis or at a reduced price? It is a truly nice sentiment.

@Sjoerd It is a generous give away to any homeless or down and out. It is a small Turkish restaurant that we visit. Really nice friendly family....

I think that Restauranteur has really captured the essence of the season :) Am sure his generosity will be returned to him in the coming year via word of mouth of his generous giving to the homeless and elderly.

Now why can't we have more people like Mehmet and his family? No-one would need to go hungry or be lonely at Christmas with folks like them around.:stew2:

That is so good to hear, Rad. I agree with Island that this family has captured the essence of the season. It is a very social gesture....a light in these sometimes darkish times.

And more to the point Sjoerd, this is a Muslim family who would not celebrate Christmas but they understand the plight of some people and the goodwill message of their own and the Christian religion.
I can tell you that their gesture is being very well received locally.....

Mate, your succinct words so hit the nail on the head. Obviously anyone who shows empathy and barmhartigheid is demonstrating good personal qualities, but when it is a person from outside the national culture, then it is especially meaningful I find. It does my heart good to read your thread here.
    Thanks again for your posting.
