Went for my yearly round of checkups. My doc was pleased with my physical. BP holding in a good range and steady, everything else checked out OK, had a gyn exam (my last ever Yay!!!!) and that checked out fine. Bone Density is good, Mammogram good, and even my cholesterol issue is showing improvement! That was the big one for me, because it's been running high for a while now, so I'm always advised to take medication, and I'm determined to bring it down with other measures. So far it's working..it's been inching its way down. Not on any medications for anything, just contining to take supplements, and my Doc commented that I'm one of the very few people my age who isn't taking something at this point. So I'll just keep everything that I'm currently doing in place, while tweaking some things that need improvement, both dietarily and with exercise. I've only included some numbers from my Lipid Profile..the couple that were flagged as high, and a couple other "good" numbers that seem to be focused on. I don't really understand how the numbers relate to each other...I need to do some study on that. Anyone who knows....on this chart, plus anywhere else I look, there is no actual reference for "D-HDL" and which is the way it's listed on my results. Most references speak about Triglycerides, HDL, (the good stuff) LDL,(the bad stuff) and total Cholesterol. So I'm having some trouble translating that to the way it's indicated on my lab results which is LDL, (the bad stuff, OK I get that, ) Non-LDL and D-HDL. (which of these are the good stuff?) Here's the chart I use for reference: And then here's a screen shot of my lab results:
Wow Ronni you are making this into a science I had my annual check last week, message from surgery "All normal, no change to medication" that's all I want to know.
LOL. Most of my friends are that way Raddang, and there are times I wish I could be too. It's the control freak in me I guess, and the research nerd too. I want to understand what's going on with my body so that I can be an active participant in maintaining my good health. Too, I've always been someone who wants to get to the bottom of things or I'm not satisfied. If my cholesterol is higher than it should be, I want to know why, and what *I* can do to bring it down with diet and exercise, rather than just popping a pill to treat the symptom. I'm that same way with everything. If my car is making a noise, I want to know what that is so I can get it fixed rather than just ignoring it or turning up the radio as has been suggested! My whole approach is to eliminate the causes of problems as opposed to just treating the symptoms of them.
