Wow sounds like a lot of work Sjoerd! I bet you are sore today!

I am slowly puthing my garden to bed, dividing some plants, cleaning up & storing the outside bird baths etc.

Our daughter arrived with a huge bag of seconds apples. I have been making chunky apple sauce. I leave the red skins on so the sauce has a pink cast to it.

Interesting posting Cayu--I have been making apple sauce as well. I have never thought to grind up the skins as well. I do that with plums, strange that I never thought of doing that with apples. I would like a reddish colour. I have been doing Schellinghouters. This apple has pure white "flesh", and thus gives a very light sauce.

I would like to see your garden when you are finished putting it to bed. If I do any plant splitting it will be next month (which is nearly upon me).
The bees have been getting some attention lately.

Anyway--it sounds like things are developing well there.

Today, I harvested beans, courgettes, cucumbers, peppers, aubergines and tomatoes. I transplanted strawberries and leeks and swiss chard. I weeded and hilled up some bigger leeks. I also harvested my first saffran. That is about six weeks earlier than I ever harvested before. I will see if others come early. I moved them in winter from a south facing slope to the north side.

I find this posting of yours very interesting, Odif. I mean the relocating of your saffron. It makes me wonder if the early emergence of the blooms was coincidental or if coolness of the north-facing location stimulated them to bloom earlier.
Yes, it is an interesting observation.

    ah..never mind. saffron. duh!

today is a baking day. the last of my markets is tomorrow. I am kind of sad but glad. means no more income, but I get a "life" back. I haven't had a weekend "free" since the beginning of April when the greenhouses started needing water everyday.

Not much doing in the garden until we got this rain, this weekend is all MINE for weeding, pulling up dead plants that will be replaced with something more sturdy, moving a few things around and generally wearing myself out after no gardening for 5 months.

Went out and hand pollinated the peppers and tomato blossom while it's still cloudy and a humid 80 here.

Carolyn, thank you. I think it's because gardening is my peaceful place.

Sjoerd, you work hard and the results show.

23 loaves of bread AND other work besides? Your energy amazes me.

Hummer, sometimes hand pollination is the only recourse.
