WAIT a minute.....Jane has posted with the words eat, Muskrat and deliciousness all in that one post???? Who are you and what did you do with OUR Jane? Ohhhhh, that was a "tongue in cheek" comment. The other day I heard of restaurant somewhere called The Tongue n Cheek .....their special dinner is Beef Tongue and Cheek and it is a best seller.
What interesting stuff, Jane. I don't call myself a finicky eater (my Bride does though), but I would have trouble eating that I think. I have combated these beasts on my grandfather's farm and noticed that they had a particular smell to them...I guess its why they call then MUSKrats. The greens did sound good though. Tonight we are going to have Tikka Masala with basmati rice and a side of a yet to be chosen veg from the lottie. Thanks KAZZER for the explanation and interesting link. I'm still shivering from the thought of eating muskrat...what a sissy, huh.
@Sjoerd i think the Chambord just turns a regular gin into a pink gin (fruity) We have chilli con carnie and rice/tortilla chips and cheese tonight
I’ve just read on the internet about eating muskrat “some say it tastes like liver or maybe a combination of rabbit and alligator” Mmmmmm, not for me I’m afraid Frogs legs and rabbit is the most adventurous I’ve been.
Muskrat and Nutria are both eaten in Louisiana ! I would have no idea how to cook one ! Yes Sjoerd the Muskrat does have scent glands that must be removed if you are going to eat the little critter !
Mart, how do you know about removing scent glands? Is there a side to your culinary experience you haven't shared with us yet?
Last night I could choose a place to eat my B'day dinner. I chose for Mexican. It was good to see the folks there again, as it had been awhile since we have eaten there.
I had this whopping great burrito filled with ground beef, black bean paste, chillies, cheese, guacamole and cream cheese too. Before we began with some a bowl of nacho cheese crisps with a generous dollop of melted cheese on top. I think that they were nacho cheese crisps, but I do not know the name of them...they were orange and triangular with a sprinkling of some sort of powder coating.Muy sabroso.
Sounds lovely If the chips were triangular, they were probably tortillas. We were in Mexico in November. The food and mohitos were luvvvvly
It has been a while since we travelled in Mexico...but the experience made a lasting impression on me.
As a child we used to have liver and onions cooked in the oven and rabbit stew. I dont think that i could eat them now.
Kazza not so much the liver myself now but rabbit anytime of the day...always loved it the meats so soft. I had stew tonight and it as made me feel ...i'm sure it's the leeks
