Well, I have goofed-off long enough—we have the weather, we have the temperature and we have the will. Why not just begin then. We popped out to the lottie for a looksy...and then slowly walked around the grounds and surveyed the situation. It is time to begin and time to give you a situation report: The predominant colours are brown and grey. There are flowers growing—crocuses are the most common. You can even see bees foraging for pollen. Where to begin though?! Every plot needs attention. We will not begin planting anything in the veggie section just yet, so that can be ignored for the time being...or .... perhaps not—just weed the strawbs. We will leave the dead leaves on the plants for the time being, because last year we had hard-freezing weather in March. Sooo, just to be safe, we shall leave those brown leaves in place for a while. Right then, we will move on to one of the garden paths--- The straw from last year has composted in situ. We will just dig that out, down to the root cloth and cut the dead stems of the ornamental grass plants and fill that path with new material. Turning our attention to the flower gardens, we decided to replace those wood chip fillings with new, fresh wood chips from this year. Just like the other path, we had to first remove the composted wood chips from two years ago. Scrape it off, dump it around plants and fill it back up again. More paths that received the same Rx. When we got home...the seed spuds had arrived. I’m already feeling achy. But supper will soon be cooked and i can flop down for the evening.
Oh Sjoerd, I am green with envy! Oh how I wish I could be out playing in my gardens! Sadly we still have lots of snow here and it will be a while before I can be out there. I cant wait to feel 'achy' from gardening!
I feel for you too, Netty. That aching after the first spring work after the lazy months of winter is a sort of "good hurt", if you know what I mean. The discomfort is a badge that I wear with pleasure and knowledge that the season is on its way. The ache sort of lets me know I am alive.
@Sjoerd it's lovely to see new growth and your all clear for a fresh start ...hows your daffs going as ours haven't grown long, jus thickening in bunches and the flower head are developing now but we've had a few snowdrops Nice job well done with your path
Thanks a mil. Gail. My daffs are not showing colour; however, the ones on the dike have been blooming for two weeks already. I do like those snowdrops.
