What have you done today in the Garden?

It will be gone tomorrow. Our clay has been wet since November and cannot take much.

I just planted yesterday. No need to do anything much, except patch some erosion.

 

Potted a new Acer up the other day and planted a Christmas tree.

 

I transplanted cauliflowers, about 40

How hot do your summers get?

 

The temperature rarely gets above the mid 30s Celsius. The temperature a half hours drive from here can be 10 degrees hotter. We have cool nights. Some years we have no summer and summer is often short here.

COLD (37f) and WET here this morning. We had an EF2 tornado touch down a county away from here last night. lots of destruction there I feel bad for them but I am so glad it wasn't here. ugg! we just had a lot of rain and plummeting temps overnight. now it is sunshining and almost 50f.
Watered the hanging baskets and planted up a few more and put seeds on the heat mat I got out of the mailbox today.

Nitram, seeing your bonsai I am tempted to try it, but the Texas heat would probably put an end to my experiment, pronto!
I harvested marjoram today and hung it to dry; made some herb cream cheese; and did a bit of tidying in the yard.

 

Did some potting of vegetables in containers. Went to my compost vessel to use with the plants and, lo and behold, there are volunteer tomatoes and cucumbers!! I repotted 4 tomatoes but may leave the cukes where they are.

Crazy!

 

Catdaddy, we had a bumper crop of pumpkins in the compost pile one year. I'd dumped the seeds from a purchased pie pumpkin, and "lo and behold, there were volunteers!"
Compost is so useful, and sometimes so surprising! I hope your volunteer cukes and tomatoes do well for you.

 

I love volunteer tomato plants.
No gardening for me today.

 

A good way I find to get volunteer tomatoes is to throw away overripe tomatoes in one bed. In March, when I put over a poly tunnel then I get loads of volunteers.

 

I kept some volunteer squash plants last year from the compost pile. They were hugely prolific. Only trouble was, the squash fruit was some unrecognizable hybrid. Neither fish nor fowl. Didn't taste very good. I made squash curry soup with some of them, heavy on the curry to disguise the flavor.

Yesterday I rehabbed a section of our lawn: raked it, applied lime & gypsum, forked it up a bit, applied the grass seed & then watered the whole shabang. I was bushed!

Today husband & I are planning to take a 9 mile walk. Trying to get into shape for a trek later this summer.

 

Mowed the lawn, ran the trimmer and burned a stump.
