I wish! Drought here is in the severe level says the weatherlady this morning. So I have been watering. Everything. Took peppers out of the garden. Bells, cow horn and banana peppers. I ate a cownhorn and regretted it.

I am visiting relatives in Wisconsin this weekend (cousin's 50th anniversary!). It has been COLD here...50's and this is in June! Cloudy and windy as well (we are a stone's throw from Great Lake Michigan). Their spring is even further behind New England's.

@carolyn, why are you putting basil between the tomatoes? Convenience or do they serve another purpose (ie, combating bugs or disease).

@Cayuga Morning I plant like this because the tomatoes taste better. It will also keep away some insects probably. They both grow well together.

Cleaning and storing garlic today. The humidity has been down for several days, so it finally dried. Rain predicted for tonight and tomorrow, so I'm preparing for not getting into the gardens for a couple of days. Phooey!
Cayuga, like Carolyn, I plant basil between tomatoes. According to Louise Riotte in Carrots Love Tomatoes (a companion planting guide) basil helps repel insects and diseases, and enhances tomato growth and flavor. I can't attest to either since I've planted together for years and have no standard to measure against. I'd take Odif's word for the better taste!

Snipped some herbs for today's menu, checked nearly half of my garden for opportunities to prune/tie/stake/feed (the other half will be done tonight.), watered a with Epsom salts for the first time this season.

Now, onto some quality television! Lol

Just as a lark I planted crooked neck squash in between my tomatoes in addition to a squash only row. The squash between the tomatoes easily outpaced the row squash coming up, and still are more vigorous and physically larger. All the seed came from the same bag.

Mowed the paths and strimmed the edges and other places on the lottie.
Took nets off the broccoli and sprouts as the voles have eaten them all up. What a shame.
Harvested more spuds. This is the second sort that we have sampled from under.
We will go back to the lottie this evening and work some more and thern order pizza's with a lottie neighbour lady. I am looking forward to that. I am happy that the pizza dudes will deliver to the lottie complex.

Each time I'm tempted to complain about our weather, I see something like Carolyn's post. My heavens, how those people cope with mud/flood! Offering sympathy is about all I can do, but I do offer it most sincerely.
Sjoerd, if you have access to a mole/vole repellent that contains castor oil it may help. We have voles, but no damage because the coyotes love the taste of voles. Unfortunately, I can't ship you a couple of our coyotes to help out in the allotment. We have lots of coyotes, but no permit for transporting!
