    Netty, isn't dry nice?!?!
We have been dry for one day and a half, and I've picked beans, dug carrots, and pulled weeds. Several of the gravel farm roads have dried out enough for traffic. Some folks were stranded in their homes for a few days. We had called friends to see if they needed anything (hoping our quad runner could get through to them) and they were all stocked up and safe and dry in their houses.
This afternoon I'm making parsley butter and marjoram butter to freeze for winter use and to give to friends. The herbs are loving our wet weather. So much for that "dry soil" theory for herb growing!

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 14°C and clear. So nice to have some good weather!
I got a lot done yesterday, but I didn't get the pumpkin patch in! Maybe today, I have some already growing in flats so I'll get them in today.
Have a great day all :)

Good Thursday morning all. Currently 12°C and overcast with rain in the forecast.
I don't remember a year ever being so bad for mosquitos! Every time I step outside they are ready to carry me away! They are in the house, they are in the car, they are everywhere!!
Off to work, lets hope the rain holds off for a while at least.
Have a great day all :)

Would love some of the rain others are experiencing. We are dry, dry, dry! Am watering again as some the hostas are looking a little stressed. Pulling foxgloves to expose the smaller perennials underneath and laying the foxglove stalks where they might be pretty next year. My way of seeding, composting and weeding all at the same time.

Need to finish my and the neighbors watering before heading out on a 5 day campout. My neighbors will be just returning from their camping. Love how small her garden is with so many interesting little spaces. I can see so many advantages of my son building on our lot. Smaller more manageable garden would be lovely. Some day....

I wish this were a good day. Last night we had a terrible storm--hail, high winds, and torrential rain. We lost our barn and our workshop, both roofless and beams and supports broken. The hens survived and are now confined to the "new" coop which has no outside access, and all three cats were a bit damp but safe and hungry this morning.
We spent much of the morning cleaning up debris in the barn lot We also lost about 1/3 of a huge cedar tree in our back yard. Our tree guy and crew are coming later today or tomorrow, and the insurance adjuster will call to make an appointment.
The next person who says,"Well God looked after you since you are both all right and the animals are okay" is going to get a little lesson in theology. I don't subscribe to the theory that God lets bad things happen and we're supposed to be grateful that it wasn't worse.
Can you tell I'm a bit on edge?

Yes I can tell, it must be very frightening to have that sort of weather where you live.
We can get very bad winds and get a lot of damage as well. A few years back there were warnings not to travel unless it's necessary and don't go over bridges.I don't believe in God.
All the best and take care.

The resilience of the human mind and spirit is amazing! We have spent the last two days picking up debris and saving what we could from the barn, and covering tools with tarps in the workshop, which is now basically an "open air" workshop. We haven't gotten depressed or angry or had any arguments. We are even joking about it now (the barn is so much breezier!) and workshop has better lighting without a roof!
It's heating up in the afternoon, so we are stopping work about 1 p.m. The fan is on in the chicken coop, the cats are stretched out on the porch in the shade, and things could be so much worse. I'm still a bit ticked off at God . . . .

Jane, sorry to hear of the damage, and very glad you, Walt and you critters are not harmed. This has been one of the worst years for wind storms without tornadoes actually being the wind that hits that I can remember and I have lived in this part of Texas all but 8 years of my life.
I am more of a S*** happens and then you get on with life, person.

The wind storms have been terrible up here in north central Texas too. You can not hardly find a street that isn't lined with the remains of 30+ year old trees, but being in a city means the roof damage in our neighborhood is minor since other buildings are around to buffer the winds.
