From this last March to Last week. This today. Neighbour came and with a professional chain saw cut down the conifer stumps and sliced them up. They will come back in a few days time and remove the logs.
Woodman came this morning and removed the dead tree from the roadside. £185 which is about half of what we had expected to pay. Took him about 1 1/2 hours to do the job. We had to block the road with his truck while he dropped the tree on to the road. Fortunately nobody wanted to go along the road until after he had finished.
Taken out another tree, Cupressus sempervirens. Do not understand why anyone would plant such a tree so near to the roadside.
mostly because they have no idea what a mature tree looks like or the space it takes up. I find trees kind of like puppies... the baby stage is not even close to the mature appearance of the species. or it was cheap or a gift.
They definitely had a thing about conifers. We have removed a large number of them. They were fashionable in the 1960's when the bungalow was built. Garden centres sold collections of soi dit dwarf conifers which in fact were just juvenile forms of giant ones. Unless people were proactive and removed them when they out grew their original space then they became the problem that many of them are today. I do not like destroying trees, but when they are a danger to passing motorists and pedestrians as this one was, growing on the top of a 6 feet bank, then, they have to be dealt with. We will be planting appropriate trees eventually.
A little bit of hedge removal. This morning it looked like this. Now it looks like this. Still got to dig out the stumps and shred the branches, but we are getting there.
It will be when we have a fence put up instead of the conifers. Over the next few days I hope to go down the full length of it and cut it back enough to be able to get someone in to measure and quote for fencing. Trying to do it in such a way that our neighbours still have protection until the fence is ready to be erected.
Did some more conifer removing. All cut back now. Stumps will need removing and the cut material need shredding. We have left the ones nearest to the drive for the moment for security. We will remove them when we have a date for fencing. The length of the piece is about 14 metres. It gives us another 2 metres of garden behind the shed and the greenhouse base.
I thought that you had already done such a massive amount of work...but this is even MORE ! Pace yourself.
Spent the day taking the conifer bits to the re-cycling place. Too much to shred and nowhere left to store them in any case. Worse thing is that there is as much to come down as we have already removed and there is still about half of that to get rid of. There is also another 10 metre stretch of hedge on the other side of the garden which we will take out as well. We are only just beginning to get the garden sorted, there is a lot more to do yet.
If we ever manage it, there is also a Leylandii hedge at the top of the garden which we would prefer to take out. Now that would be fun, it is about 30 metres long and a good 4 metres high. Cost is going to be a factor. The bottom hedge would be about £700 for the fencing and about £450 for the other side of the drive. On top of that would be the cost of having the fence erected. Heaven knows how much it would cost to have the top hedge fenced.
