Help ... What is happening to my cucumber?

At first I thought it was squash beetles, then maybe leaf miners that like to mine around the perimeter of the leaves or is it just some kind of deficiency?

This is the first time for me to plant cucumber in a container and my soil mix is my usual home garden soil and homemade compost … I'm lost.

 

looks like the plant is stressed, maybe not enough calcium? maybe not enough NPK? maybe too much or to little water? maybe a cold night? But I THINK its kind of normal for older leaves to die, as the plant grows.
maybe water it with 1-1-1 fertilizer, can't hurt.

 

Well, the leaves are not wilting so I do not think squash bugs,,looks like powdery mildew !
Mine always get that too !

 

Powdery mildew is easily contained/eliminated. Either use a 1 part milk to 10 parts water mix sprayed on the plants, or 1 tablespoon of baking soda to a gallon of water, with a few drops of soap added as a surfactant and either sprayed on weekly, or after a rain. The afffected leaves won't heal, but the mildew won't spread to new leaves.

 

It will still produce cucumbers ! I just ignored it ! Its common to warm, wet and shady places which mine are !

his pic doesn't look like Powdery mildew, his ends of the leaves are just yelloing, which IMO says the plant is stressed for whatever reason.
I still think adding in some fertilizer is the thing to do here, ( maybe some Epson salt too? )

 

It could be that you need a bit of magnesium.

 

It looks to me like it wilted and the sun then burned the wilted leaf OR... turn over the leaf and look closely to make sure there are no spidermites on the backside of the leaf. use a loupe or magnifying glass to see. they are tiny. if that is the problem pinch off the leaf and douse the rest of the plant with a soapy bath.

 

Thank you all, I don't think I have a right diagnosis yet and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it will heal itself. The plant is growing well but not as well as it should. Will have an update in a couple of weeks.

Looks like poorly draining roots \ too wet \ soil too dense. Here is a wet cucumber picture. The concave leaf margins can also make you believe there is a nutrient issue, but then again they do grow fast and suck up a lot in the process.

 

I do see what Carolyn is saying and she could well be right. I wonder if you guys have spider mite there. I wouldn't say that the foto looks typical for that though. You can check it out with a loop.

 

Dirtmechanic I wanted to think that it is poor drainage but then again the drainage is good. Your plant condition in the photo looks very much like mine.


Yes we do have spider mite Sjoerd, I look really hard with my glasses on and I couldn't see anything. Then I decided to take a photo and enlarged it to see if there is any thing.

The picture is then enlarged 200% and I found something around the yellow circled area.

There are black specks like creatures and one of them look like it had wings.

Immediately I sprayed them with soap, sodium bicarbonate and some alcohol mix. I'll give the plant another spray this evening and also the next couple of days and see what is the result like.

Those could be aphids.

 

Possibly I googled it and the pictures made my skin crawl yikes!!!
After the soap treatment it is looking better I think
