Is this normal for asparagus.

    My asparagus that I planted parsley with throwing out new shoots in August. Does this happen for you lot too.

    I don't know if it is normal, but mine is doing the same thing. Started mid-July.

    mine does the same,, means you will have more new ones ! may not be as big but just give them time !

    They are bigger than the ones that grew in spring.

    Ours does the same. We let them come up, throw out a bit of composted manure, and have a small fall crop of asparagus.

    i never have enough for a fall crop so i wait till following year for better spring crop !

    Mine does this every year as well. I don't pick them, I let the plant build strength for spring.

    First time ever, our asparagus put up most of the summer, the ferney shoots.

    My asparagus patch is so dense, I can't get between any of the plants. They spill out onto the walkway. I think I planted them too closely.

    Cayuga, do you eat any ? It seems eating would thin the crop. Our
    original Asparagus patch took several years to be called a patch. We were watering it with creek water and never ate it. Then we put out
    another patch, which took a few years to give enough to eat. The old
    patch has become a circle about 4 feet across and quite thick. We do
    eat a few stalks as we no longer use creek water. The newer bed may
    give us a good batch in 2021.
