I have several cantaloupe female flowers on 2 plants.
    Questions:
    1) I did hand pollinated 2 female flowers on 1 plant, after that the 2 flowers closed and never opened then few days later died.
    Looks like the pollination failed.
How long do female flowers last from first it opened?

    2) I have few female flowers on another plant but never opened, may be too young?
I noticed the green bulge of one female flower changes from green to pale yellow, it it dying?

    Thanks

Would help to know where you are located ! Cantaloupes like squash frequently lose the first flowers !
    Just give them time !

Would you place some foto’s on here of swellings, flowers and so forth?
It is so that after pollination of the flowers they will close and die so that the swelling can go head and develop. I feel encouraged for you so far.

Much depends on the temperature where you are ! Here in Texas they do best when the temperature is between 75 and 85 ! They like warm weather !

The bulge also shrinked and died.

Also, I found there are more female flowers, but looks like their stigma are in green colour, should I wait until the stigma turns into yellow before hand pollination?

Today, I took photos, the bigger bulge never opened the flower, looks like dying.

The other female flower with smaller bulge opened and I tried to hand pollinate her.

Well mate, you have presented an interesting problem here. I find it a shame that you are having such problems with your cantaloupes.

Are you growing your cantaloupes in containers?
What is your feeding and watering regimen?

It is difficult to get a handle on what is going on there. Is it in the beginning, middle or end of your growing season? Finally, have you seen any pests on your plants?

    Turning to your original questions:
How long flowers stay open? Here where I live they usually stay open 1-2 days.

If the bulb of the female flower turns yellow at a young age, it is not a good sign usually. Fingers crossed on that. We shall have to wait and see.

I have never hand pollenated cantaloupe flowers as my bees do that for me.

    Keep us posted.

I planted them in a 12 inch container.
I have not much idea about the growing season...These cantaloupe plants have been in the pot for about 5 weeks after transplanted from seedlings.

I added blood and bone fertilizer into the potting mix (with compost) in the beginning (about mid Dec)
Then added fertilizer 10 days ago.
Normally I water them with 1 litre water in the morning, afternoon and evening. Too much?

This big bulb just puzzle me why it did not open the flower...there was another big bulb last week died as she did not open the flower either.

    Hiya Outgoing.
The picture is becoming clearer. Late summer is not really the time to plant melons...it is actually nearing the time to harvest them.

Here where I live it is almost 02:00 and past my bedtime. I will read over your answers tomorrow and perhaps have another thing or two to say about your melon problems. As for now, I am going to check my eyelids for pinholes.

They also may be drying out too much for the plants to set fruits. In a Container in very hot weather it is hard to keep watered. Melons often drop their newly forming fruit in times of drought.

Try lifting up the pot before watering. If it is too light then it is dry. If your pot is heavy then it has enough water.
