Was mentioning to DirtMechanic Bow Bells in passing chat... My late Dad was born within the Bow Bells making him a Cockney but he lived a middle class life. so never spoke like a Cockney. His father was a well recognised photographer taking the worst of the WW2 in pictures. He took photographs for the the UK Royal Family and was awarded a MBE for his photography career. Once when my Sister and I where youngsters as usual we stayed over many weekends, he produced some war photos to us which straight away we could see they were horrors, my Dad went into a rage at his Dad....right to stop this of course but upsetting over the rage. My sister and myself gained his temper, but luckily ours leaves us very quickly...my Dad's could go on for a year but was rare thank goodness...Funny how a brief comment brings back memories some of which are buried and some make me smile still. My Dad's side of the family with my Sister to the left all smiles and me, very shy as a kid in the front middle. My Dad in the back row left. Grandad next to me, to my right. Would be in the 50's
My close family are in main a nightmare..So I moved on from Ancestry of my family and found great interest in my Husbands family. I started one Winter a tad lost , in need of a new Hobby, not knowing how it would pan out. The French side of my Husbands family is the Aumoniers, in translation that is Chaplain. Although I have not found any Heads of Churches amongst any of them,(just adding that there are in more recent times though) they had a very strong Protestant Faith and they where Huguenots which are existing in many countries today. Anybody that is interested in the History of this period 17th Century but started in the 16th Century, can do a search themselves quite easily, Louis XIV concerning the Edict of Nantes is a middle of the road place to search. When we moved to this region I had no idea that this particular family group the Aumoniers, are just a stones throw away...there is another group of Aumoniers in the far east of France, which I do believe they would all be part of the same family. I noticed that way back people tended to stay within their areas much more. except war caused/forced them to make vast journeys. When the French tried to invade Russia they thought nothing could stop them, but they did not realise the terrain was nothing like the 'feed off the land type' that they were accustomed to.. they starved and got sick though drinking foul water so defeat was inevitable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_invasion_of_Russia The more I read about French History the more I want to, but it is not Winter time so it's now out in the Garden time... Famous Aumoniers are abundant.. William Aumonier Senior Wood Carver, Stone Carver, Architectural Sculptor Stacy Aumonier a Writer Eric Aumonier Sculptor just to name a few... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Aumonier
Love that group photo Dianne, what a treasure! Family history is my winter time hobby too. Unfortunately, I didn't have time this winter dealing with my parents affairs. But I did find some interesting items in their things that could help on this next winter. I am also shifting into garden time.
I have only 4 old photos of my late Dad's side of the family and have no access to any of my late parents possessions. My sister and I were even denied the inheritance. I can easily talk about it all now, as I see life is too short to be bitter. Face to face only though. Phew.. everybody reading this is saying. |
How life plays out with family and those things past down or not ... tells more about the true essence of a person’s character than anything else in life. Every individual is a story in their own from my simple observations. Love living without the drama some appear(ed) to enjoy and propagate. Yes, life is wonderful.
Having this 24 hour monitor on today has kept me more or less out of the garden and I have spent time chatting with friends in the UK..and then I remembered all this laughing, I have to log everything I do so they can see why the blood pressure is so erratic.....Tomorrow after 8.00 am will be wonderful when this necessary item is removed..
