Turnips as a vegetable is often confused with the swede in so many ways. I have used the vegetable swede and it works greatly. Its can be roasted or baked and the results are just delicious. The vegetable can be used as an accompaniment of any meal. I find it hard how people can confuse with the turnip it is just its own vegetable. I prefer the swede over the turnip what about you?

Rutabaga is a type of yellow turnip ! Love them too ! Tried to get them to grow here but Texas is just too hot !! Regular purple tops do well here ! I plant them at the end of gardening season for fall harvest !

Like Mart, we plant a small amount of turnips late in the season. The thinnings are sliced and used in salads, and the larger ones, lightly steamed and with a bit of butter and salt and pepper, make a wonderful side for pork or beef.
I've never encountered the rutabaga/yellow turnip, but I'll look for them at the grocery. You never know what will turn up (turnip?).

Like sweet potatoes, rutabaga gain sweetness after a small frost or at least cool weather ! I boil in a small amount of water seasoned with S&P and a touch of sugar ! Not much sugar but it adds to the flavor and makes a better broth to pour over your cornbread ! Gotta have cornbread with them !
