What have you done today in the Garden?

Well, who’s. The busy bee then. It looks like you have done some good work there, DW. The spuds look good but of course the strawbs— you have harvested strawbs ! That makes me purple with envy.
Well done you.
BTW— nice looking iris. Poor thing looks lonely, but will produce some friends in time.

The Bride and I popped out to the lottie to survey the damage from those atrocious winds that blew all day yesterday and last night. As we walked the path on the way to our plots, we saw blown-over bean racks, missing roofing and limp plants in people’s gardens. I had a dark brown suspicion of what would present its-self on our allotment.

Everything was in order, save the little courgette silo’s. They were “dented”.the bean plants however were in sad shape so that will mean re-planting by hand in situ. It is a bit disappointing, but not at all too late for a second chance.

It began to rain as I was chatting with the neighbour lady about the weather and damage. Her beans had been mishandled also.

 

I removed a hebe on the rockery, it was getting too big and didn't "look right" in that position.





It looks better without it, I just spread out the phlox to fill the gap.




There was nowhere else to put it, so it went in a pot and was added to "the alley of shame." Plants that are out of favour that I won't bin are put along the side fence of our drive.




We try to discourage the wood pigeons that visit our garden, there's about half a dozen in the vicinity, but we usually only see a couple of them at a time. It's the mess they make every year that annoys me.

Each year, they try to nest in this tree in the front garden once it gets into full leaf, as it is today.






So it's a case of checking it daily. I have to shake it to get them to move as they spend a lot of time in it before building a nest.
I checked it last night and had to chase one off. I checked it again at lunchtime and one was sitting on the scruffy nest it had built this morning. I used my telescopic pruner to chase it off and rip out the nest. They won't be back this year, they'll go elsewhere.

 

Posh then @Logan we had a fridge that at the top your poured in cold water and guess it cooled the so call fridge...

@DianneWoollie no the fridge wasn't posh and it soon went. But we did have a pantry that had a thick stone shelf that kept everything cool.
Anyway i don't want to go off topic very much.
Haven't done much today just moving the wallflower seedlings around out of the bit of sun that we got, so they don't get too hot, they're doing well because we haven't had the hot weather this year.

 

My Wallflower seeds are sprouting..very pleased... in between the showers started pruning the Walnut Trees in our soon to be land, it is attached to our Garden. We have cut through the wire fence and put in a lightweight wire framed gate, at the moment it just lifts in and out with wire tied in places to secure it. Wide enough to get our trailer in there, which is now full of cut down branches. Sad some of the walnuts had to go as well, ... the branches were so low almost touching the ground so needed to do that work on it....An 8th of the grass has been strimed with a suitable grass cutter before we can use the all singing and dancing mower purchased recently for just that land. It is almost waist high now....now some photos of bloomers..

I set the cage for the cucumbers this morning. Cut grass yesterday, and tilled weeds. Lol DW set stakes for the tomatoes. She drives stakes like the tomatoes are vampires. I might not get that close to the roots. Still, I hear you need to thrash the tomatoes to help them pollinate and so forth so I am glad for any help, even a stake through the roots.

 

Just plant your tomatoes close enough that leaves are touching ! You will have no pollination problems !
Air and a light breeze will take care of it !

 

This year it is her garden and I am the helper!

 

@Dirtmechanic I just lightly touch the open tomato flowers with my fingers to pollinate them, it works a treat.

This morning weeding and mulching. This evening I transplanted cauliflowers and planted some beans.

 

Yesterday did a lot of weeding in the back garden one of the borders with the blackberries and blackcurrants are in and tidied the edge of the grass.

 

Today finished the weeding in the back garden border and planted 12 small sage plants in that border.
Still got a lot of weeding to do but it's easy after all the rain that we've been having. When the ground dries it's like rock.

 

Planted up the 2 hanging baskets with trailing geraniums, fuchsias and eurigeron daisies.

 

Such a clever move on your part.......she does most of the work and you get to help out......This saying crops up a lot..Is there anything I can do to help..your up to your eyes in jobs, cooking, planning, clearing up as you go, and cant think,.so you say, no I'm fine..whilst thinking under your breath.....like why.cannot he not see what needs doing to help! (you might not understand that though).....

 

So pleased with mine @Logan re-lined mine this year and used fresh compost so doing dandy...need more trailers though...
