Tuesday I spent a while sorting out my workshop/shed. Noticing some of my containerised roses were looking a bit dry, I planned to give them a watering asap. Yesterday, Wednesday I was a bit under the weather. December is my depression month. So this morning, Thursday down I went to water the roses. A few years ago I had to secure my garden due to the light fingered downstairs neighbour and her kids. So my garden gate became more like a pair of garage doors plus a corrugated roof. This gave me a safe place to keep my composts, wheelbarrows and sackbarrows plus garden brooms. Since the Covid outbreak, we had some gusty winds and the roof was destroyed. The doors/gates remained plus the rafters of the roof. So this morning I unlocked the doors. Something was stopping one door from fully opening. A large bin liner full of new pots was part of the problem. Then all was revealed. My new lightweight wheelbarrow was missing, the compost from it was tipped out. The only way the barrow could be taken away, was to empty it and then lift it out through the roof. I have an idea of the culprit.
Oh Mike I hope you have reported this, as well as your suspicions !! You look after yourself, stay in the warm and be lazy. Soon the days will start to be longer and the sun will shine again!
Mike, do report the theft, and who you think is responsible. Who would steal a wheelbarrow? Only someone who thought they could sell it, or someone really stupid (I vote for the latter). I had two women come to see our garden when we lived in town, and one kept stepping in front of me to keep me from seeing the potting shed. I had rooted rose cuttings in the shed, and her partner in crime was putting the 4" pots of roses in her overly large purse. I caught them, got the cuttings back, and told them if they ever showed up again they would be compost!
Oh Mike that's terrible. Hubby had a bottle of whiskey taken out of the trolley while going round Sainsbury's the other day, he didn't put it in a bag when in the trolley for some reason. He only realised it when he came back home.
Yes report it or this could keep happening. Who knows what else they'll take next or what damage they may do.
Report it, report it, report it. You know, if you do not report it, it didn’t happen as far as the police are concerned. I feel for you mate, it is just terrible. Great story Jane. You’re a legend. Well done. I is pretty sickening though isn’t it. I like Netty’s idea about camera’s. Just get the best one(s) you can afford with respect to resolution. Disgusting.
A camera might help if the thief comes back and doesn't steal the camera. Here in Texas we find a double barreled shotgun works well. You don't have to shoot the thief, just scare him so badly he has to go home and change his pants.
That reminds me of when I worked on a mushroom farm in Australia. Thieves/vandals had ransacked the field (the mushrooms were grown outside under straw) and the local police suggested we took it in turns to do night shifts with a shotgun. I asked them how I should proceed if the thieves turned up on my shift (I was a bit nervous) ''Just shoot the b******s '' was the immediate reply. Good job they didn't turn out on my watch, I might have done just that
How frustrating. I cant type the word I'm thinking of calling those varmints. Some people are just jerks Part of my garden has a 7 foot tall deer fence. It's just a 120 sq foot area, so I have to plan and select the use of every square foot. I have caught people in there. One time they left the gate open, deer got in and destroyed every green leaf and stem. Now I have padlocks. Some people have no respect for others. It's sad. So sorry for your frustrating event!
