The Good Day All Thread

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently -6°C and snowing.
We got oodles of rain yesterday and a high of 6°C. Then the temperature dropped and everything froze overnight, so everything is a sheet of ice.
Dog walk was kinda slow due to the ice.
Went to Michaels and Costco yesterday. Everytime I go to Costco mid week during the day I am amazed at how many people are shopping. Doesn't anyone work anymore? haha

Wednesday, or Little Saturday as some call it here in Norway. +4°C, sleet, rain, warning of gale force wind gusts, or maybe a little bit worse. The snow is melting. I need to do housework. Happy Wednesday, all.

I'd prefer a well-behaved Icelandic. I can't stand impolite horses or children, and as far as I'm concerned they need approximately the same type of training to behave. Patience, gentle guidance, lots of praise when displaying proper behaviour, a chance to actually display proper behaviour, and also careful nurturing of their personalities. This one's smart and learns quickly, but it's sort of wasted since his owner puts up with his antics and never corrects him at all. He's out of shape so I can't enjoy the only reason I know of to have an Icelandic; their tølt. That's a gait unique to this breed. It feels like flying only you're on a horse but hardly move at all while the landscape flies by. Ah, well, can't have it all I guess. At least he likes his cuddles and being groomed, so I'll just suffer through the hacks we go on.

 

Well, yesterday was a lovely, warm, sunny day. Today not so much! We have temperatures hovering just above freezing, wind, and cloudy with a chance of rain. Whoopee . . . .
I have retreated to my icky weather activity and have French bread dough rising. Nothing like a good workout kneading bread to get a person warm!

 

A little warmer here today. -22 c when the downstairs fire was stoked at 2 AM, but now up to -17 C by 8:30 AM. Looks like the promised snow will arrive this morning. I brought in my bag of soil to sit by the fire in the mud room for a few days. It will be a snowshoe trip to the shed to get my tomato starting pots. I forgot to bring them closer to the house in the fall. . Ahh well, can't remember everything. Very excited to start the tomatoes soon....a promise of spring.

 

Good Thursday morning all. Currently -17°C and sunny.
Not much to report today. Its Thursday so it's my errand and shopping day. I'm going to pick up some seed starting soil today so I can get my peppers planted. And I'm going to try ground cherries again too. Have a great day all

 

We have cold and ice. The roads are icy and sheriffs are begging people to stay home, schools and public offices are closed, and the populace is generally unhappy.
Since the seed feeders are frozen, and we didn't want to risk going out to loosen things up, my husband threw bird seed on the path. The birds seemed to enjoy it!

This is supposedly the last day of freezing weather. I sure hope so!

 

My, those cardinals really brighten things up, don't they! You are wise to be careful. We're on the plus-side of temps. I've been to the stables, did the chores, rode the horse, then went home and made a big hole in my brand new desk. I now have a pop-up USB plus sockets and I'm very happy about that.

 

Good Friday morning all. Currently -12°C and snowing.
Yesterday I went to do my grocery shopping and picked up some soil. When I got home I planted 4 varieties of peppers, ground cherries and some eggplant.
It was a nice sunny day so I went out to my greenhouse and it was so nice and hot in there that I decided to clean the windows! Now I'm definitely ready for spring!
Looking out the window at the blizzard outside makes me wonder in spring is ever going to get here!

Early Friday evening here, and I'm in my cave sorting stuff. Three big, empty boxes and a bunch of full binders, and I'm pleased. Temps today are around 3°C. We had sun, then it started snowing again. My other stable friend tested positive for covid this morning, so I know where I'll be this week-end and probably some days next week too. Taking care of two horses takes time but I've had two most of my horsey life so chores will be done and exercise given. I just hope I won't get sick until both horse owners are back at the stables. My youngest will come with to help so I won't have to ride both horses. That saves us a couple of hours. Enjoy your Friday!

Up bright and early for our Saturday morning skate. This afternoon, DD will compete for the first time since March 2020!
It's going to be a busy day, and the sun is shining so it should be a great day!

Well.....all I can say is you caught my attention very quickly with "ground cherry". I had never heard of these, but have seen them in the store being called a Caped Gooseberry. After a bit of reading, I've ordered my seed! I hope it arrives within the week so I can get them started. I'm very excited to see if I can grow these. Looks like a crop failure for seeds of the Aunt Molly's variety, but I found a more compact variety called Little Lantern that is available. Thank you Netty!

 

I just want to say—be aware that unripe fruit and fresh leaves are poisonous, so be aware of that and educate your kids. They are in the Solanaceae (nightshade) family.
But I have grown and eaten them and they grow well in our zone so I believe that you will be successful where you live.

Thank you for your thoughtful caution. I did read that...and paused briefly. I had Bitter Squash poisoning last year ( had no idea) and was sick for a good while. Having no little ones or close neighbours, plus they will have to be in an enclosed cold frame, I'm going to give it a try. I really appreciate your insight and will heed it. Thank you.
