A while back we made furrows in the patch that would have spuds in it this season. I wanted the sun to shine into the furrows and warm them up before planting.

So then, I used a tulip bulb planter to make holes in the bottom of the trench and dropped the chitted spuds in...then raked some soil over them. I will gradually fill the trench in as the potato plants grow. I will just cover the leaves every time that they appear.

I can hardly wait until I can lift the first potatos of the season, and look at them and say to my Bride when she asks what I think about them— “ Is potato”.

A little spud gardening vid for you now:

Hey Cayu— glad you liked this posting, and the spud bed. I am especially happy that you watched the vid and enjoyed the humour. My Bride and I say that phrase a lot to each other and then laugh. We are a bit childish upon occasion.

Good to hear that your potatos are in the ground now. We will have snow for a few days now, I hope that you folks will be spared.

Hahaha! Is potato indeed. Your potato patch is as tidy as the rest of your lottie. I'm not surprised. And I'm still grateful that the girls got to pull potatoes at your lottie. They ate them with relish, and they kept eating potatoes once we got home. Glad we cleared that hurdle. That was the year the government suddenly decided it was illegal to bring raw potatoes across the border, so we had to eat all on our way home.

Yeah, those were the good ole days, ja?
I was so glad that they enjoyed them so much. We are so fond of our own spuds that we sometimes eat them right after lifting them...right there on the lottie. Complete with butter and a pinch of salt. Oh, so tasty.

But that's the best way to eat potato! I also remember a year when spring was so late the girls decided to pot a potato each and grow it in the window sill. Once spring arrived I had to carefully transplant those potatoes outside. We got a couple of meals out of them.

I agree. We do a bean mélange sometimes as well...on the good years.
That was such a sweet story, but the real bonus was that you got a coupla meals out of the puber project. Chuckle.

You know Droopske, I was so impressed with the enthusiasm your girls displayed in the lottie. Their interest and interest to try any of the veg....and fruits. I recall that they enjoyed the blueberries quite a lot. I believe that you thought that they ate too many and referred to them as starlings. Mate, I thought that was so funny and still smile when I think of it today.

Yes, I remember. They still love fruit and blueberries. We have some ourselves now, and all of a sudden they're not as keen to eat them here... Guess yours just tasted better, or the entire setting made them taste better.
