That flower was amazing Eileen, and there are more to come. These plants don't pack a punch at first, and I've always thought of them as ugly brutes, but when they start to put on the main show they can be stunning. Not only that, but I have to confess they also prove to be quite interesting too. I am beginning to see why Lord Awful is hooked :nerdy:

    Another Gymnocalicium in flower now.

And the Hottentot Fig outside, this one is only borderline hardy, it survives the frost as it's next to the South facing wall of the house. Elsewhere they only survive around our coast.

On the left is a new cactus (from last year) which I thought might have been a Peanut Cactus hybrid. Compared to the Peanut Cactus on the right, it's got more rounded petals and thicker stems.

Amazing blooms on those cacti. We had one who's blooms lasted about a day. Big and beautiful blooms, but the scent was even bigger. It succumbed to mealy bugs while we were away on holiday. I miss it.

Zigs, good luck on winning any prize the cactus show has. Everyone here on the Stew can attest to the lovely cacti you grow, and the beautiful blooms.
