Thanks all. I am busy doing "garden editing"; thinning out my perennial beds. They are way too dense. Unfortunately I am having to throw all the divisions onto our compost heap, due to the invasive jumping worms. But, I have a friend coming this week who will take plants. We plan to soak all the soil off the roots & repot in fresh putting soil. Seems like a lot of work to me, but she is game, so that is the plan. Sjoerd, thanks re your comments. Ironically I just moved that chartreuse hosta! It is recovering under a beach umbrella. Should I give it a MaiTai? The hakonechloa is going like gang busters. I'm hoping my friend will take some of it this week. I'll post a photo anon when it's not in full sun.

What remarkable peony's you have. I do not recall you ever showing your collection. I really like the single, open ones. Your pic featuring the Hakone grass is a splendid one with all the interesting elements in the composition. Cor, you have a nice place there. Chapeau for what you have accomplished there. I like the umbrella employment. That was using the old nut, wasn’t it. I use parasols also to shade me when I am working on my knees and to shade the beehives during a heatwave. I have never thought of using one to rehabilitate a plant. Scratching my head….actually I do not normally transplant at this time of year though.
My garden umbrella is out over the hydrangeas. Lost a tree that shaded them so umbrella to the rescue.
Gorgeous Pacnor. So you employ the umbrella too? Do you ever pick your peonies while they are still in bud, put them in your fridge (sans water), then bring them out when all the other peony blossoms have gone by? If you put them in water, the buds will open. Extends the enjoyment.
