They are for me because if i sow them in a seed tray and prick them out into cell trays i loose a lot of them, so i sow them in the toilet roll tubes and thin out, then pot them on.

Today I added some tubing and emitters to the drip irrigation. Might as well water the rhubarb and sweetpeas too.

Saw that one of the zucchinis had a male flower, so I used that to pollinate the yellow summer squash and a couple of female zucchini flowers.

    Pulled some weeds.

Watered seedlings, mainly French marigolds, African marigolds, some cucumbers. And the brugmansia, which is starting to perk up with new, greener leaves.

Planted cleome seedlings in the meditation garden.

Inspected the garden. I thought the sweetpeas didn't grow, but some are even blooming now. And they have a sweet fragrance.

Some squashes are a bit slow. I gave them a dose of fertilizer.

That was all today. I was tired after making dog food and a loaf of sandwich bread.

Tomorrow: tie up more tomato plants, start planting French marigold seedlings into the borders, cultivate and water sweet corn,

Today I hung a LOT of bird scare tape strips, for blueberries and figs.

Implanted the mini-flat of French marigolds. Happy that's done. I have been saving seeds for that variety for many years, and didn't want to chance losing it this year. I feel like it is "my" French marigold.

I added a tanglefoot strip to two of the fig trees, that have soon-to-ripen figs.

    That's about all. Feeling tired.

Another busy day at the lottie.
I mowed the grass paths, cleaned a portion of the onion patch, tied-up plants that were hanging over into the paths, weeded flower beds, schoffeld the rest of the path edges, watered the neighbour lady’s garden, and chopped on the Laurier along the fence.

Retaining the swaying plants that hang into the paths is an important thing, as when the Bride can return I don’t want her tripping. She had pulled her back and is taking it easy at home now. So I must take up the slack with the garden work. maybe I had better crack the whip at ome and tell her to stop malingering.

Sjoerd, please tell your lovely wife to rest up and get well. A sore back is so painful!
Not much doing in the gardens today, just watering everything and praying for rain. If Mother Nature doesn't give us rain soon I'm going to stop praying and start threatening!
We'll clean and refill the hummingbird feeders. We just put in an inch or two of syrup because in this heat the syrup ferments in a couple of days and we don't want a bunch of partying hummers buzzing about! Also keeping the bird watering station filled and the feeders topped off. The only thing we don't do is invite the birds in to enjoy the air conditioning.:setc_063:

@Sjoerd - Busy bee taking on the gardening of three. :):sete_011:Hope your Bride's back rests and heals soon - it is always so tempting to test the waters too early when the garden calls. Be sure to be kind to yours in all of the extra busy.

My daughter and son in law are here for a couple more days, and just wonderful help. They are country folks that must live in the city for work. When they come to visit they love to get in the garden, be with nature and just help out where ever they can. Hence....I came out to an immaculately weeded aspapragus garden.:heart: I've very grateful. Today I will mulch the healthy parts with pine needles and keep an eye on the new roots over the summer to see who will show up to the party. If the areas don't fill in, I will cover them with roofing shingles to downsize the garden and focus on the areas of healthy growth. No need for all of the empty spots just for the sake of weeding.

Today was puttering, weeding and pruning off/bagging aphid infestations on my ornamental cherry shrub and lupins.

Hope your bride heals quickly, @Sjoerd. I shudder to think of the mischief you might get into while she's at home.

I have managed to plant up the tipsy planter, just in time for our next week of rain and chilly weather. Right now annuals feels like a waste of time, but it was a nice waste of time!

Thank you all for your very nice words. My Bride was touched and appreciates your well-wishes.
She is chomping at the bit to get back to the garden. I am going to have my hands full keeping her from being too enthusiastic. She is a very energetic type of person. Chuckle.

Now Droopske, I must protest. You know that I am not a mischievous personality at all. I can’t imagine what would motivate you to make such an unfounded accusation.:setf_004:

Today was mostly spent constructing the frame for the outdoor cooking station. I'm too tired to do much else.

I did water the sweetcorn and potatoes. The summer squashes are starting to bloom, and one had male flowers. So I helped Mother nature along by using those to pollinate the female squash blossoms.

The Burgess Buttercup squashes have female, but no male flowers. They are a different species from zucchinis so I didn't try pollinating them.
