@Logan, I saw on the weatherchannel this week where Europe and the UK are having such record heat (not that Celsius numbers mean anything to me...) and extreme wildfires. I had not heard until I went looking to see if there are any hurricanes in the Atlantic. Our best chance of rain this time of year is a large hurricane (or more) in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. My first husband served in the Army and did a tour in Germany before the iron curtain fell, and he said that their summers rarely reach 80F, and it is considered a national emergency when they do.
It rained!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not forecast, but it did enough to fill all the water butts to overflowing. Soil is still dust though, so not really anywhere near enough rain
It was a very narrow band of rain clouds. The next town to the North East of us got no rain at all. 5 miles away?
@AAnightowl yes last Monday and Tuesday was the highest temp.up to 40c This is 6 days ago. There's been wildfires
@Logan I have seen reports and photos of the extreme heat, drought and wildfires in the UK and Europe. I have no idea what centigrade/celsius temps are compared to Fahrenheit. 40F is quite pleasant, and a little bit chilly. I hope the fires are under control soon. Prayers for you all over there.
National Hurricane Center (noaa.gov) This time of year in the central US, it takes one or more hurricanes and or tropical storms in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico to get us some drought relief. Unfortunately, that also brings a lot of damages along the coastal areas. Right now there is nothing stirring in the Atlantic Ocean. Though northern Missouri did have some record rains and flash flooding today.
Thank you @AAnightowl yes they are now but there could be more. I hope everything goes well with you and hurricanes and tropical storms when they happen. I have no idea also but I'm told that centigrade/Celsius is better and more accurate, but it all depends on what you're used to.
Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion, my gran said double it and add 32. Therefore according to my gran 40c is about 112f. Actually 40c is 104f. We had a very welcome rain yesterday. Temperatures a lot cooler here than England.
Today in Kent - South East UK we expect about 30 c (86 f) and still no rain. It is only our corner of the country which is experiencing the extreme drought and it's having some deadly results for our gardens and farm crops. We watch continually for signs of smoke in the area as it could very easily cause devastation, and there is always the danger that one idiot could spark a fire. One such idiot has evidently been employed to garden next door to us which will be a bit of worry There have been fires all over the place around here. We were outside last night looking when we thought we could smell smoke.
Yes Tetters it's very worrying, there's only got to be one stupid person to start a fire. Like a DIY barbeque or a proper one.
