For complete insect proof your skin.. use ‘Green lipped muscle gel’... works all summer…especially when working out in the garden or mowing the grass hay … just watch the bugs fly… a lil dab will do ya…

There is a resident hawk that follows me around the pastures as I mow … very good eye at grabbing the mice and voles that pop up from mowing.. we hunt together so to speak…:nerdy: kind of cool …

Picked some figs. This year I've been watering the fig trees when I change the water in the duck pond. Maybe that's why they are so big and juicy and sweet.

The Thunbergias are starting to bloom nicely.

So lovely to see your garden posts @Daniel W - AND I have been so wondering about those FIGS!!!! Jealous down to my toes. When I saw your photo of one cut open, I was amazed at (cough cough) how they looked??? Yet so delicious. Good Job! and wonderful Blubes!!

@Sjoerd - I loved that feeling you shared Friend. So much. I'm very sorry you were stung.:-( I've been coming inside wet, gross and stinky - leaving my stuff outside and then shaking them out for fear of yellow jackets. Your Bride is a wise and strong woman. And I totally agree....there is something about the early early. ( maybe not in a bee suit, covered in sweat and stung). Hats off to you Sjoerd....more courage than I have.

It was an afternoon town day, which is unheard of. But the One Tonne needed immediate service so away we went. The voles/pocket gophers won in the carrot patch, and everyone was pretty much pulled today and put in the mud room. They usually win every year eventually, but I do not like to set traps because I may catch a bird. That would break my heart. Some carrots were splitting so it was time. Took a huge box to a neighbour in trade from Hubbard Squash in the fall. She gets an extra month of growing over me and carrots are her nemisis. Long growing squash is mine.

Potaotes were dug as well, beans were picked. Then off to town.

I am checking in quickly, and hope to be able to post photos soon.

I may be the only one posting photos in November of my garden in August. Time is so precious, and I do not have high speed internet. Or Cell Phone service. And a cranky old lap top hahahaha. I have to book some time for pictures.

@Sjoerd - have to mention....putting that suit of protection on at 19 C at 6 AM....can't imagine. It would be like going into a sweat chamber of "no protection"....that would have been a tough row to hoe. Early AM's are supposed to be refreshing. You're humidity index times 1000 in a bee suit with Angry Bees....I'd have to say nope to that one. :sete_030::setc_089::setc_089: ( I get grumpy after 15 C)

This morning I noticed a second tree next door in the middle of their garden has some leaves that have died off so that one too could be in trouble. We've still got another four days of hot weather to come. A hosepipe ban may come before the rain.
It won't bother me that much, I can use the "two watering can solution." "One pourin', one fillin,'" it's all good exercise.
Anyway, I don't think my leaky hose watering system for the beds applies.

Dug up another bunch of Gladiolus corms. These ones are all red, they will be quite pretty, and there are a ton of babies!!
Watered the potted plants and walked the yard 20 times, nothing out of the ordinary.

Anoher busy BC day, aye Mel? It is good that you are getting all your suff in for the winter. Do you ever use a clamp for winter storage? Perhaps there are too many beasts; however, there are solutions.

Here is an old link: https://www.gardenstew.com/threads/making-a-clamp.12230/#post-113686

This morning we gave water and harvested. Topped the outside toms. Took a goodie box over to some elderly folk we know along with milkshakes. Yum! Tied-in the toms and gherkins and some flowering plants.

That is very interesting Sjoerd. My ex father in law is an old Saskatchewan Prairie farmer, and has many stories of leaving carrots in the ground . They are soft and very hairy when I find them, but they are in one piece. :)

I asked Hubby and he said I would have to go three feet down to beat the -35 C, if it wasn't a heavy snow year. If it was a heavy snow year, I could go less. I would not be able to access it during winter but hope for the best for the spring.

That is a fabulous system - and I bet those root veggies taste amazing and as fresh as harvest in your winter months. ( I would love a root cellar...but too many darn rocks here on the mountain. )

Ohh don’t ask.. I am to tired to talk about a day of trimming and clean up… it was a cool day … but that didn’t stop me from running thru the mist hooked up to the hose and a pile of popcicles.
